@jimbosandifer@JeffreyBrandes@JeffreySco86583 But you didn’t answer the question. Assuming cities and counties aren’t wasteful, what do we cut? Parks? Library services? Homeless shelters? A decrease in spending eliminates services and jobs.
@jimbosandifer@JeffreyBrandes@JeffreySco86583 There are many cities where the taxes collected currently don’t even cover public safety, including DeLand where I used to work. DeLand’s Fire Department is one of the highest rated in the country, which also keeps property insurance down.
@JeffreyBrandes@JohnRou63401193 Worth pointing out cities like DeLand and Deltona don’t have the luxury of collecting tourism taxes since they’re mostly residential. In DeLand’s case, about half of its structures are tax exempt and any revenue collected barely covers public safety. Why I went to corporate life.
People are free to argue these things are excessive, but there has been virtually no discussion about the overnight deletion of a lot of community services this property-tax cut would hasten - things so routine residents just kind of assume will always exist.
🧵Ten questions Florida should answer before detonating the property tax system:
1. If this is real tax reform, what replaces it?
Florida built local government around property taxes because Florida has no state income tax.
You can dislike the system, but you cannot remove the load-bearing wall without explaining what keeps the roof from collapsing afterward.
@itsAntWright@Thebullwillwin Maybe snippets? Kind of like how the rest of it is filmed. Great to see 🧀 get some airtime and learn more about Yax - really helps one gain some great perspective about his season.
