Totally forgot to post, but thank you to everyone who attended our presentation on increasing engagement for students with ASD at #NASP2024 ! Never have I ever had a standing room only experience as a presenter. Beyond humbled and even more motivated to keep the work going.
Check out my poster “Behavior Management Skills in an ASD Program: Initial Findings” this Thursday 11:30-1 in the Exhibition Hall to learn more about teacher trainings and confidence in implementation of behavior analytic strategies! #NASP2023
Outside neuropsych eval w/ no relevant or recent school input (besides 2 T rating scales but didn't include the adaptive): Calls for an alternative placement.
Also used a norm-referenced cognitive assessment to "measure a lack of progress" ???
This is absolutely bonkers.
Friendly reminder that when talking about students, language matters. Describing challenging bx like it’s not an attempt to communicate a need but just to hurt is not just unethical.
It is cruel.
We should seek support our students. And teach not blame.
Major disservice to the field. Where’s the data to support this as improving the field? Being a psych/BCBA is such a strength - especially in schools. This decision will just make ABA services less accessible to those who would benefit.
@mlstantial I had this experience at my defense and I can say firsthand that it wrecked my confidence and has taken years for me to process. I can still hear the comments made so vividly.
We’ve all seen this “study” that using data in the classroom and beyond doesn’t alone improve outcomes for students. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: data is not the end of the conversation—but the beginning.🧵🧵🧵
Before you take down those beautiful images of Black genius you put up all over school for Black History Month, maybe…just leave them up? #pbis#RepresentationMatters
Did it give anyone else an ick feeling when studying for the #eppp that they spend a lot of time focusing on projectives?
Also, I’m always floored when I still receive outside evals with projectives. My undergrad testing professor in the early 00s told us then they were junk.
When a student struggles it is important to shift the question from:
"What is wrong with the student or what does the student have that I can name/label?"
to
"What is missing from the environment that the student needs from us that we have control over to implement?"
@SchoolPsychMsB I’ve always been a black jeans or leggings that look like dress pants person. I’ve got to be comfortable and be able to move to do my job effectively.
After 5 months, “lost” documents (twice), many phone calls and coordinating I’ve finally been approved to take the EPPP.
Now just to pass it 😝 #eppp#AcademicTwitter
Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems model adapted for Black youth development and attachment processes in context (Stern et al., 2021). thank you for letting me draw this @JessAStern !
