Q8: How can scientists or members of the STEM community use their expertise, assets, and power to advocate for a fair election in November? #ScienceRising
@SciRising A8: Share resources in classrooms and in work-places and encourage others to do the same. Advocate for safe voting measures (https://t.co/MxEx550iU1), contact local policy makers, write op-eds about the importance of safe and fair elections. #ScienceRising
Q7: What support (financial or otherwise) exists for people who want to get more involved in registering, educating, and mobilizing their community around the election? #ScienceRising
@SciRising A7: Many organizations and universities already have voting information resources compiled for students and may have ways students can volunteer. You can also find toolkits https://t.co/sOhKZsuPKA to help jumpstart a campaign to get people registered and voting. #ScienceRising
Q6: Voter suppression has long been an issue for communities of color and students. What can people do to know their rights, and ensure their vote is counted? #ScienceRising
@SciRising A6: Start by learning your rights as a voter here: https://t.co/m2nGxeLwe8 Vote early if you can, track your ballot if you can, and contact your local election official to make sure your ballot made it in. #ScienceRising
Q5: What can we learn from those examples about effective ways to engage our communities in voter registration, education, and mobilization around the election? What are your tips? #ScienceRising
@SciRising A5: Make the process as easy and as simple as possible! Share resources that make obtaining information easy and take people right where they need to go. #ScienceRising 2/2
@SciRising A5: Share resources and reminders often! Once isn’t enough- remind people to register to vote AND to vote up until the deadline and election day. And always remind people of those upcoming deadlines. #ScienceRising 1/2
Q4: Let's hear some fun and creative examples about what individuals and groups are doing to engage with their communities in this moment. How have they adapted their advocacy due to the pandemic? #ScienceRising
@SciRising A4: Everything is online! Instead of an in-person candidate forum for the 9th congressional district primary race, we sent questions to candidates and asked them to provide written responses which were shared with the community and in the media. #ScienceRising
Q3: How are students engaging around the election this fall? What are colleges and universities doing to ensure students know their rights and stay civically engaged, even if they're not on campus? #ScienceRising
