Born and raised in San Diego. I love Elizabeth Spangler, San Diego FC, San Diego Padres, Anaheim Ducks, Las Vegas Raiders, Longhorns football and Aztecs hoops
@MenloMaven@cbwritescopy To be fair the MLS was born from that last World Cup and should see a boost in fans going to games and more people watching since it’s not behind a pay wall anymore on Apple TV. This World Cup regardless of how US does will help grow the game here more.
@DarinWilkes@trappdepot@thesportsgully The real trophy only gets presented to the winner at the end of the final. The trophy you see them with when they’re celebrating back in their respective country is a replica. The real one goes back to FIFA headquarters
@FOXSports Adidas got it right with the ball design. The three colors representing each host country and small designs in each. A maple leaf for Canada, a star for the US and an eagle for Mexico, absolute perfection.
@mikebtrippin With the way I think they structured it is they put all the big countries in the mid west and east coast so they get more tv exposure and then that way these other teams wouldn’t outshine the USA since all their matches are in the west. Therefore stuck with less known countries.
@BlueCFM_ Especially at 9pm pacific time, it’s absolutely amazing how successful this World Cup has been attendance wise through the first week. Matches are averaging 63,000 and total attendance is projected to 6.5 million which would almost double the record from 1994, also in the US.
@coutixszn I’ve said this too. We see them during football season every year but the fact that the whole world has descended upon America and in turn watching them on TVs around the world somehow is making these stadiums hit different.
@Kingg1111T@Tips_and_tweets@Official_clev But considering some of the largest stadiums in the world are in the US and then you have 48 teams now, this tournament will shatter the 3.4 million from 1994 and that only had 24. So let’s say an average of 65,000+ spectators attend the 78 matches in the US, that alone is 5 mil
@Tips_and_tweets@Official_clev It’s honestly wild that a country where soccer/football isn’t the most popular sport but yet it’s gonna have the top 2 most attended World Cups in history. Take that snobs lol
@WallStreetMav As cool as that would be it couldn’t happen. FIFA requires actual seats and a vast majority of college stadiums have bleachers in order to reach the higher capacities, but as I said it would still be cool.
@HeadphonesJones@njjackson23@utddahnny There’s no way a Special Olympics would be planned that far in advance. Something like the World Cup takes years to plan even if the infrastructure (stadiums) already exists. Not to mention they didn’t feel like it would make all the money they would’ve spent back.
@HeadphonesJones@njjackson23@utddahnny The bidding process for this World Cup began in 2017 before the 2018 edition which was right after Super Bowl 52. The city commission exhausted all their funding to put on the Super Bowl and didn’t have enough in the budget to turn around and get ready for the WC in time.
@DrakeMayeFan11@GBarca_ Yeah Minnesota absolutely robbed us of US Bank Stadium getting used because they pulled their bid early in the process when the US first submitted their bid. It’s probably the only other NFL stadium in my opinion that could rival Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta on looks alone.
@kwesipoku_@TouchmineX Exactly, which is why it was so easy to pick Mexico and Canada as well with the only exception being BMO Stadium in Toronto needing temporary seats to reach the 40,000 FIFA requirement.
@c19lox@JaguarGator9NFL I’m absolutely obsessed with stadiums. There’s all kinds of stadiums I’d love to visit in Europe someday and be in awe of just like Europeans are in awe of ours. It’s just how it works
Man I would give anything to be in Miami in the days leading up to Scotland-Brazil. Two nations that love to party in a city that knows how to party is gonna be wild. This World Cup has been great so far!
