Dropping an iPhone from 30 meters high just to test DIY protection methods is crazy! 🤯
In this test, four different ideas were put to the ultimate drop test a water balloon, a watermelon casing, a trampoline on the ground, and a giant block of frozen jelly. Honestly, I was fully expecting all of them to end up completely shattered.
But surprisingly, the watermelon, the trampoline, and even the frozen jelly block actually managed to absorb enough force to keep the phones completely scratch-free! The water balloon was the only one that failed to protect the screens, though the phone still managed to turn on.
Its crazy how surprisingly effective a thick watermelon shell or a frozen jelly block can be against a 30m drop, though obviously not very practical as an everyday phone case 😂.Which method did you think was going to work best?
Why does every single medical device need to connect to Silicon Valley software?
My 79-year-old grandmother has worn hearing aids for almost fifteen years.
Her old pair had a tiny physical wheel: roll it up for louder, roll it down for quieter, click it to turn it off. Simple. Reliable.
Three months ago, her clinic told her that model was obsolete and fitted her with a new, $4,000 "state-of-the-art" digital pair.
No physical dials. No volume switches.
The audiologist proudly told her:
“Everything is seamlessly controlled right from your smartphone app!”
Last Thursday, the app pushed an automatic software update overnight.
It logged her out of her profile. When she put them in her ears that morning, the aids defaulted to muted mode.
She spent four full days in total, isolating silence.
She didn't know what an update was. She didn't know her password.
She genuinely thought her hearing had completely failed overnight and spent the entire weekend terrified to leave her bedroom.
When I stopped by on Sunday and saw her sitting in tears, it took me forty-five seconds to reset the Bluetooth pairing and log back into the app.
A basic medical device that keeps an elderly woman connected to the human world shouldn't become completely useless because an iOS app had a bug.
We aren't modernizing products to help patients. We’re doing it to force software ecosystems onto people who just want to hear their grandkids.
Have you had to rescue an aging relative from an unnecessarily "smart" medical gadget?
Red Hat puts their spaghetti code (GLib, Gtk, Gnome, systemd, Wayland, Pipewire, Portals) all over #Linux. And because their stuff is halfways working, the community isn't pushing back, and even competitors like Canonical fell into the trap of using it. https://t.co/2tDza51WBG
The era when we used to drop our phones and the battery would fly out was just crazy. 😭 You would shamelessly pick up the phone, the battery and the back cover and put everything back together.

If you’re asking me for a brand-new iPhone XR, 11, 12 Pro Max, 13 Pro Max, 14 Pro Max, 15 Pro Max, etc., please understand this:
Apple no longer produces these models as brand-new units.
The only iPhone generations currently being produced as brand-new models are the 16 series, 17 series and 18 series.
So when someone tells you they have a “brand-new XR,” “brand-new 12 Pro Max,” “brand-new 13 Pro Max,” or any other discontinued model, BE VERY CAREFUL.
Some of these phones are:
🇬🇧 UK-used phones that have been repackaged
♻️ Refurbished units
Phones assembled using different parts
Old stock being presented as “brand new”
And the scary part? The phone might look perfectly new when you buy it. But within a few months, you could start experiencing problems because of the parts or refurbishment.
DON’T LET THEM SCAM YOU. 🚨
A sealed box does NOT automatically mean a brand-new phone.
Just released Bayer Cam 2.1! Lots of new things in this update.
- Variable aperture support for iPhone 18 Pro. Like ISO & Shutter Speed, you can leave the control on auto, or lock it to a specific value - other controls adjust as needed. Start chasing those sun stars!
Anyone else been totally unable to get the iPhone 18 Pro's triple live activity thing working in the dynamic island on the simulator? Only ever shows two for me
