🫀New @CTCPR_ study in The International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging
Mathilde Zeuthen Pedersen and colleagues show that cardiac diastolic dysfunction is strongly linked to kidney failure risk in CKD.
Study design
731 CKD patients followed for 3.8 years with comprehensive echocardiography.
Key findings
• Severe LV diastolic dysfunction → ~3x higher risk of ESKD
• E/e’ >14 → >3x higher risk
• Consistent signal across diastolic markers
💡Cardiac function may help identify CKD patients at highest risk of progression.

💉 What if we looked beyond statistical significance?
A new Bayesian re-analysis of the DANFLU-1 trial by Daniel Modin and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, included 12,477 adults aged 65–79 years.
Key insights:
• >95% probability that high-dose vaccination reduces all-cause mortality
• >95% probability of reducing influenza/pneumonia hospitalizations
• Findings were consistent across non-informative, evidence-based, and skeptical priors
The results strengthen the evidence supporting high-dose influenza vaccination in older adults.

🫀Who benefits from subclinical AF screening?
A LOOP trial substudy led by @fwemmer1 and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in the Journal of the @American_Heart, tested whether echocardiographic markers modify the effect of ILR-based SCAF screening on stroke.
Study design
1,422 participants were randomized to ILR screening vs usual care (5.5-year follow-up), with echocardiography in a subset (24%).
Key insights
• No overall stroke reduction with ILR screening (3.9% vs 3.8%)
• Conventional echo measures showed no effect modification
• Only left atrial contraction strain identified benefit (HR 0.38 in low strain)
💡Atrial function—not standard echo—may help identify patients who benefit from screening.

🫀Can cardiac myosin inhibition improve outcomes in non-obstructive HCM?
A new publication by Kaveh Hosseini and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in Heart Failure Review, highlights findings from the phase 3 ODYSSEY-HCM trial evaluating mavacamten in symptomatic nHCM.
Key findings:
• Clear biomarker and imaging effects
• No significant improvement in functional capacity or quality of life
• Reversible reductions in EF required dose interruption in some patients
💡Target engagement alone may not be enough to achieve meaningful clinical benefit in nHCM.

🫀 What is the long-term cardiovascular impact of RSV infection?
New nationwide Danish data study from Anders Hviid and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @JAMANetworkOpen, followed adults ≥45 years with laboratory-confirmed RSV for 1 year using Danish health registries.
Key findings:
- RSV was associated with a significant excess risk of cardiovascular events
- Highest risks were seen in hospitalized patients, older adults, and those with CVD or diabetes
- Cardiovascular risk after RSV was comparable to influenza
💡RSV may be an important contributor to long-term cardiovascular morbidity — highlighting the importance of prevention and vaccination.

🫁 What do B-lines on lung ultrasound mean in hospitalized COVID-19 patients?
A new study by Øyvind Johannessen, @pmyhre and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, examined 270 non-ICU COVID-19 patients using 8-zone lung ultrasound a median of 4 days after admission.
Key insights 👇
✔️ B-lines were almost universal (97%)
✔️ Associated with inflammation and severity
• Higher CRP
• Higher Early Warning Score
• Higher pulmonary pressure (TR gradient)
❌Not linked to left heart function or NT-proBNP
❌Not associated with 30-day mortality
💡In COVID-19, B-lines reflect inflammation and pulmonary stress—not left-sided heart failure.

🫀How much of the cardiac risk in psoriasis patients with MASLD is driven by the liver disease itself — and how much by underlying cardiometabolic risk factors?
New study by @dons_maria and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in @JInternMed, examined cardiac structure/function and MASLD in 255 adults with psoriasis.
Key findings 👇
✔️MASLD was linked to worse cardiac function and adverse cardiometabolic profiles
✔️After adjustment, BMI and diabetes were independently associated with myocardial dysfunction
💡Highlights the importance of cardiometabolic risk factor control in psoriasis patients with MASLD.

🫀Can advanced strain imaging improve risk stratification after CABG?
New study by @fdavidovski_MD and colleagues from @CTCPR_, published in the International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, examined layer-specific GLS in 641 CABG patients using speckle-tracking echocardiography.
Key findings 👇
✔️Reduced GLS across all myocardial layers was linked to higher mortality
✔️Epicardial GLS remained independently prognostic even after EuroSCORE II adjustment
✔️Layer-specific GLS was associated with HF/CV death outcomes
💡Advanced echocardiographic strain imaging may add important prognostic value after cardiac surgery.

🎓Congratulations to our newest PhD, @matslassen!
On Friday (15/05/26), Mats successfully defended his PhD thesis titled:
"Effect of Respiratory Syncytial Virus Vaccination on Cardiorespiratory Hospitalizations - From observational data to randomized evidence: Insights from a registry-based cohort study and a pragmatic randomized clinical trial”
Mats's PhD focused on RSV, cardiovascular disease, and pragmatic clinical trials, with a particular focus on the DAN-RSV trial - a large-scale pragmatic randomized trial embedded within the Danish nationwide digital health infrastructure.
An impressive milestone driven by collaboration and dedication. Congratulations from all of us at @CTCPR_ 👏

🫀Are patients with atrial fibrillation better protected with high-dose influenza vaccines?
New study by @Espersen_C & @CTCPR_ (@ACCinTouch) using DANFLU-2:
- n=332,438 adults ≥65 years
- 34,085 (10.3%) with AF
- Randomized to high-dose vs standard-dose influenza vaccine across 3 seasons
🔑Key findings:
AF patients had markedly higher risks of influenza-related & cardiovascular hospitalizations
High-dose vaccine ↓ hospitalizations for:
- Cardiorespiratory disease
- Influenza (incl. lab-confirmed)
- Cardiovascular disease
Effects consistent regardless of AF status
Greater absolute benefit in AF (NNV ~243 vs ~933 in non-AF)
Worth noting:
The trial was not powered for the AF subgroup analyses, meaning these findings should be considered hypothesis-generating.
Implication:
In high-risk populations like AF, vaccine choice—not just vaccination—may matter 🫀
