@amywelborn2 Marshall McLuhan, who stands out in my mind for three things. 1. Was a Catholic convert. 2. Appeared in Annie Hall, and 3. said: "The medium is the message." 🤣
@OrinKerr I am way out of my league here, but it seems as though the survey challenges the assumption that urban residents have a more ltd concept of privacy than rural residents.
Many clergy at that time were intinerant circuit riders. They could have easily crossed territorial and state lines. Rather than finding a form for each state, they could pull a generic one from their briefcase.
What caught my attention was the generic marriage certificate form. It was so generic that even the name of the territory was left to be filled in. At first, I thought this was amusing, but then I realized it made sense.
There is an ongoing misinformation campaign against the Pope.
I get if some people feel conflicted about the Pope speaking against the war, but don’t be fooled into believing the lies about the Pope.
Below are three of the main lies I see:
#2246: It is a part of the Church's mission "to pass moral judgments even in matters related to politics, whenever the fundamental rights of man or the salvation of souls requires it." Catechism of the Catholic Church
“I am disheartened that the President chose to write such disparaging words about the Holy Father." --Archbishop Paul S. Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

I don’t see any way to interpret President Trump's "prediction" that "a whole civilization will die tonight" as other than a threat to order the military to commit crimes against civilians. If he issues such an order, it will be the duty of military leaders to refuse to comply.

“Pope Leo XIV made clear: ‘Brothers and sisters, this is our God: Jesus, King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war.’

The bishops of the Eastern Catholic Churches in the U.S. have issued "a cry for peace and justice," as they are "anguished" by atrocities and suffering in the nations where their respective communities originated.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops joins @Pontifex in prayer for the people of Cuba and the United States, and echoes his call, together with the Cuban bishops, for sincere and effective dialogue that avoids violence and prevents further suffering.
On Holocaust Remembrance Day, I would like to recall that the Church remains faithful to the unwavering position of the Declaration #NostraAetate against every form of antisemitism. The Church rejects any discrimination or harassment based on ethnicity, language, nationality, or religion. https://t.co/e6GS1xDhRf
