District 50 Republican State House Candidate Jadon MacCormack drew bipartisan condemnation for an anti-LGBTQ+ social media post.
House Minority Leader Vincent J. Candelora says MacCormack should end his campaign, but MacCormack remains defiant saying his “principled mindset” is what the GOP needs.
This is not the first time MacCormack has posted anti-LGBTQ content on social media. Reposting an article on the possible supreme court overturning of gay marriage last year, he posted a picture of a noose writing "the bible has a better idea".
As the Democratic primaries for governor and the 1st Congressional District grow more personal, Connecticut is poised for a summer of negative advertising—an unusual development in the self-described "Land of Steady Habits."
State Rep. Josh Elliott's primary campaign against Gov. Ned Lamont targets the governor for not raising taxes on the wealthy and blames him as "the sole reason" many struggle to live in Connecticut. Elliott also argues Lamont's niceness is a liability: "Nice doesn't solve fascism."
A judge ruled yesterday that Democrat Harrison Amadasun should receive the South Windsor Town Council seat he won.
Amadasun was denied the seat after voters approved a charter change on the same ballot capping majority-party seats at 5. The town clerk applied the new rule immediately, denying Amadasun the 6th Democratic seat, but he and council members argued it wasn't meant to take effect until 2027.
The ruling shifts the council from 5D-4R to 6D-3R.
@CTIronman@benproto59 Westport RTM Member Alma Sarelli is the Republican running in the 26th State Senate seat.
No Republican has filed yet in the 142nd State House Seat yet.
Weston First Selectwoman Sam Nestor is now on a glide path in the open 26th State Senate Seat. Kamala Harris won here 66-33. With Dathan dropping out and party endorsement in hand, Nestor doesn't face a primary in August.
State Rep. Lucy Dathan (D-New Cannan) dropped her bid for the open 26th State Senate seat on the 21st. She than unanimously won the party endorsement for her State House Seat.
Both candidates running to succeed Dathan, Jack Pavia and Tina Duryea, dropped their bids in what was seen as a dead-even race between the two.
Therefore, Dathan faces no competition in a primary.

Rice told the New Haven Independent that he found delegates who attested they would have switched from DeLauro to him after the initial ballot.
This unique rule of delegates being allowed to switch after the initial ballot allowed State Rep. Jillian Gilchrest to make the ballot in the 1st Congressional District.
Gilchrest felt far short in the initial ballot, but a switch by Larson delegates in Manchester allowed her to exceed 15% of the delegate vote.
A state Democratic Party panel is weighing a possible redo of the 3rd Congressional District Democratic Convention after Andrew Rice pressed a complaint that delegates were not given 10 minutes to make a switch after the initial results.
New Haven DTC Chair Vinnie Mauro conceded he did allow delegates time to switch, appoint a parliamentarian, or call for a vote for the adoption of the rules

State Rep. Josh Elliott exceeded the fundraising mark over the weekend needed to qualify for public financing against Governor Ned Lamont for the August Primary.
His formal application is expected to be submitted next week. He will receive a $3,750,355 grant if he met the requirements according to state election regulators.
The grant will allow Elliott to give his message to a larger audience against the popular governor.
Ruth Fortune told supporters last week that she is on track to exceed the 3,734 signature requirement to make the ballot against Rep. John Larson (CT-01).
Fortune would be the first challenger to make the primary ballot against an incumbent by petitioning in the state's modern era.
Fortune says she expects to need a buffer of signatures due to expected disqualifications, and is gathering more than necessary. If she succeeds, she will join a crowded field with Larson, Luke Bronin and Jillian Gilchrest on the ballot.
Democrat Linda Pierce-Kubisek formed a campaign committee to run against State Rep. Donna Veach (R-Kensington) in the 30th State House Seat.
Veach ran unopposed in 2024 in this Trump +7 seat. In 2022, Veach won 55-45 against Democrat Denise McNair.
Poll commissioned by @votevets has Rep. John Larson trailing his primary opponent, former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin, by 8 points.
Luke Bronin - 38%
John Larson - 30%
Jillian Gilchrest - 10%
Ruth Fortune - 4%
18% undecided

Connecticut has some of the most restrictive petitioning requirements for congressional candidates in the country.
Challenges include
- short deadline to gather 2% of party registered voters in the district - only 6 weeks (April 28th to June 9th)
- petitions must be submitted separately, in-person, to each town in the district
- signature will be ruled invalid if it's returned to the wrong town and may also be tossed if the signer's name doesn't match their voter registration
- All circulators - the people who collect signatures on behalf of a candidate - much be registered members of the party in question, as validated by their local registrars of voters.
Connecticut Democrats currently have candidates against 38 of 49 Republican incumbents in the State House - leaving 11 incumbents unopposed - with 2 weeks to go until the June 9th filing deadline.
This list includes 2 seats Kamala Harris won, and 4 seats Donald Trump won by less than 10 points.
Connecticut Republicans currently have candidates against 43 of 102 Democratic incumbents in the State House — leaving 59 incumbents unopposed - with 2 weeks to ago until the June 9th filing deadline.
4 seats unopposed by the GOP currently were carried by Kamala Harris by < 10 points in 2024.
Republican William Gifford formed a campaign committee today to run in the open 8th State House Seat.
The seat is held by State Rep. Tim Ackert (R-Coventry), who is retiring after withdrawing from this Lt. Gov campaign. Kamala Harris won this seat 50-48 in 2024, as Ackert ran far ahead of the federal lean winning 59-41. This seat will be very competitive as an open seat in November.
