This is my friend @mayordcreeves, Mayor of Pensacola. This issue isn’t isolated to the Hoosiers state. We can find balance, work together and seek relief for all. Yes, it takes time and effort - things I believe we should be willing to dig in and do!
Agreed. The Trojan horse to gut local government budgets is that it’s a debate between being FOR or AGAINST any relief.
It’s not. It about decades of funding cities and counties one way, then wanting no in-depth analysis and a few days to change it.
'Completely disingenuous'
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears is pushing back against comments made by Carmel Mayor @SueFinkam following the arrest of an alleged carjacking suspect with a rap sheet 14 pages long.
Days after the arrest, Finkam took to X to criticize the criminal justice system, particularly Marion County.
"We have residents in central Indiana committing crimes and Marion County can't put them in jail and keep them in jail,” Finkam told me today.
Mears pushed back.
“We need to make sure that we're being accurate and honest about what's actually taking place," he said in an interview with me this afternoon.

I appreciate the Governor talking about the affordability issue that many, many Hoosiers are facing right now. However, affordability issues are being felt across all income and age brackets. This change will shift the tax burden required to provide services in our city and state to young families. If workforce attraction is one of our state’s biggest issues, this policy will work in stark contrast to that effort.
Our party and leaders need to get serious about policy and stop governing to misleading talking points to gain political headlines. Let’s get serious, come the table with REAL solutions for ALL. That’s how we win, both at home and the ballot box.
Indiana Gov. Mike Braun wants to eliminate property taxes for seniors and those who have paid off their mortgage.
This is the same state government that removed tax relief for first time homeowners in a property tax bill last year because it would have allegedly harmed local schools.
Yet under this proposal, Braun would pay zero dollars in property taxes on his huge, nearly 10,000 square foot home with hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer-funded improvements.
The hypocrisy & hatred of young adults here is insane.
It’s incredibly anti-family.
Shifting the tax burden to young families doesn’t seem like the right way to make life more affordable for average Hoosiers.
Yes, many of my elderly constituents are struggling with their bills. So are young people who are putting off getting married and starting families because they can’t afford to buy a home. Generally speaking, Americans 55+ control nearly 70% of the nation’s wealth.
Any future tax relief needs to be much more nuanced.
We had a great time today at the 110th INDY 500, and enjoyed catching part of the race on the rooftop with the legendary Roger Penske. Team Penske driver David Malukas finished 2nd today, and just 0.0233 seconds behind winner Felix Rosenqvist—the closest finish in race history!
The best part was the moving experience of honoring our fallen heroes for Memorial Day with nearly 400,000 Americans.🇺🇸
Settled in doing what many Hoosiers do tonight……rewatching the race we all just went to!
Huge shout out to @jdouglas4 and @IndyAllison and team for a great, safe race!
Okay, Indiana… Let’s talk about tomorrow’s Indy 500 race. Something much more fun than politics, well, maybe a little bit. Who do you have winning this year’s race? Alex Palou, Pato O’Ward, David Malukas, Alexander Rossi, Josef Newgarden. And I’m going to throw in notable Santino Ferrucci for good measure !🏁🏎️#ThisIsMay #Indy500 #indycar #Indy

As a delegate to the @indgop convention next month, I look forward to voting for Max.
