The world is, fundamentally, *about* God. All we call pleasure is some creature being given the privilege of showing us some aspect of God's goodness for us to enjoy. What we call "doing good deeds" is being given the privilege of being God's creative love to another creature.
@EdLatimore It's a bit of an odd question since the lump sum, even if conservatively invested, would return more than $20M over the course of 20 years...
@TheCatholicEngr I've avoided most (though not all) of the marital debt discourses. One was more than enough.
Are they all the same thing, or is there variety? has anyone tried to update it with marital credit cards and marital put and call options and marital credit-default-swaps?
@reconditenight I wouldn't go that far, since grace can also perfect nature. There's no suffering in receiving the Eucharist, for example.
And it is our nature within this changeable world to change; to change in accordance to our nature is just more ordinarily called "growth".
@AStratelates@JLevendia I'm really looking forward to the RFID-tagged everything where you don't need to scan anything and can just walk out of the store with it I was promised in a Google ad like 10 years ago.
@reconditenight (note: I'm not saying that a 1000 sqft ranch is affordable on a 67k/yr salary, I was only asking what a term I didn't recognize meant.)
@reconditenight Yes, but you were specifically talking about numbers in the context of buying a house, making it non-optional within the hypothetical. 😊
I'm sorry, I'm not following. What I have in mind is that if a painting exists to convince the viewer that there should be 30% tariffs on Canadian lumber in exchange for subsidized daycare, it's not likely to convey beauty or the pain of lost youth or... much of anything that can't be done better in a pamphlet.
@kendrictonn With a bunch of caveats, the fundamental problem is that a work of art is really a kind of tool—ideally a tool for communicating truth that can't be expressed well in an essay. Which means when it's used for something else, it's probably going to be a bad tool for one of them.
