Advice today from ESO/ALMA expert on sustainability of science software that should be still usable in 40 years: write code in C++ with no external dependencies other than cfitsio. That’s exactly what we are doing 😀@gammalib#opensoftware#cfitsio
Of course we need to find a new logo, but besides that, ctools will remain available for the science analysis of data from your preferred Cherenkov telescope, including CTA 😉
We were informed this week that the @CTA_Observatory has chosen to not adopt ctools as the CTA Science Tools. We very much regret this sudden choice although we understand that a project needs to take sometimes tough decisions to move on.
ctools will of course continue to be available to everyone as it was available over the last decade, and anyone can use it and contribute to the code developments as before, although resources available for user support are not going to be guaranteed at the same level as before.
Why is Failure important? 🧠
• Failure is an incredible learning experience.
• It teaches you humility and growth.
• It is the first step to understanding.
• It makes you realize the importance of success.
• It gives you a sense of direction.
• It gets rid of Fear.
