Tad Boyle took a step in the right direction last season after the dreadful 2025. This year, the young guys will have to step up to keep that momentum going.
The Buffaloes will play through senior point guard Barrington Hargress. His transition to Big 12 basketball worked out very well for him and he will be one of the best point guards in the conference. Hargress shot a whopping 48% from 3 last year. It’s not his first choice of shot, but it pretty much sums up his all-around abilities. Big bodied Josiah Sanders plays physical and will bring that high motor next to Hargress. Jalin Holland should start as well. His jumper is better than what was advertised last season, so hopefully he can build confidence and have that consistently where it should be.
This frontcourt is old with some weight. Justin Neely put up monster numbers at UNC Greensboro, averaging 17.9 ppg and 11.5 rpg. Adding one of the top rebounders in the nation is what is needed for Colorado to have success in the physical Big 12. Noah Feddersen from NDSU will start at the 5 with the ability to stretch the floor. His rebounding could use a little of a boost, so having Neely next to him is a huge help.
The depth is very young and inexperienced. Ian Inman gained a bit of momentum at the end of last season that he will be looking to carry over into this season. He has a nice shot that the team may need and will be a good person to have on the perimeter with Hargress’s playmaking abilities. David Gomez will come in at the 4 or 5. He’s also able to shoot the long ball, but will help out on the glass. Eric Jacobsen is a big freshman coming in that will continue to put on weight. He attacks the glass well and has nice touch. Alex Dickeson comes in with high hopes from Australia for the backcourt. He has a great shot and is able to make things work off the bounce. He may end up at the starting 2 by conference play. Rider Portela will also be fighting for backcourt rotation minutes.
This Colorado team does have potential, but the depth of young guys have to step up. If Dickeson becomes the stud he can be, this starting lineup has something cooking. Hargress should win all-Big 12 honors and the frontcourt is very old, big-bodied dudes. The frontcourt depth guys have to do the dirty work that they have advertised though. It will be interesting to see how Colorado stacks up in a tough Big 12.
