@StephenKing Last night, I watched ‘It: Chapter One’ with my teenager. He’s new on the horror scene, and I was a little worried that it would freak him out, but he rode the ride admirably and without screaming. At the end, his first remark - in his frequently simple yet elegant style - was: “Finally! A horror movie where the good guys throw hands with the monster!”

Today there followed a more in-depth discussion on exploring the banality of evil in storytelling and contrasting it with real-life experiences, and it was all very satisfying. But honestly, his initial analysis told me more than anything else that I’ve got a kid who gets one of the most basic tenets of life:

Sometimes, you’ve gotta throw hands with the monster.
