@Merry_Meredith@horton_official I am minded of the Emperor's new clothes when reading this article and @RishiSunak@DefraGovUK letter to farmers today. Does he really believe what he wrote today is true? Everything is under threat, precious habitats and the farmers that maintain them are at real risk.
@EdenSwimmer@Dartmoor_AC@FWAbiKay@chrisshortccri@horton_official@FGoliviamidgley The announcement was a kick in the teeth for NF commoners. In the real world honesty matters. We are years off of a CS here in the New Forest, yet we deliver all the public goods. Here is my favourite valley mire! In summer it will be a carpet of bog asphodels. Valued by Defra?
I've done some initial analysis of the new ELM rates🧵
If in GS6 you are delighted.... a £464 uplift
If in GS2/GS5 disappointed as no change
Defra figures show until 2022 ~300,000 ha in GS2 & GS5, just 26,000 ha in GS6

The Dartmoor Review is out. Substantial changes are recommended in how @NaturalEngland approach agri-environment delivery on SSSIs.
This has ramifications across all upland/marginal areas of England where multiple outcomes incl nature recovery is sought

It is good that @NaturalEngland recognises the need to change how they work with the farming community to improve outcomes for nature, climate, businesses and people.
I hope this refreshed approach will be implemented across England.
Looking for some local hand made Christmas gifts that will last a lifetime? We have just opened the kiln and have some beautiful new pots in the #pottery.

We want to hear from you if you’ve been affected by changes to your tenancy or notices to quit. We are collecting evidence to help influence better policy for farmers.
Today I joined @lambswick visiting the Commoners of the New Forest and see first hand the unique ecology that grazing cattle are part of. So often I’m told cattle are the problem, here they are an amazing solution.
@EdenSwimmer@NFFNUK@hilltopfarmgirl@herdyshepherd1@suepritch@chrisshortccri A lot to reflect on.
(probably the most readable article I have ever read on a screen!)
Pic: Wet lawn, valley mire, ancient & ornamental woodland grazed by our cattle and ponies.
In this scenario we & the large marsh grasshopper, bog asphodel, nightjar etc would all go.
Thanks to our staff and other New Forest organisations, we’ve cleared up truckloads of rubbish left behind by travellers and made the area safe for forest animals. The staff time and cost of specialist waste removal diverts Forestry England’s limited resources. #CareForTheForest
