Some Barcelona fans are already saying Javi Guerra is the wrong profile, but that is exactly why he should be considered. Not every midfielder in the squad needs to be another Pedri, Gavi, or Olmo. Football is about balance, and one thing Barcelona have lacked at times is physicality in midfield.

When teams press aggressively, win second balls, and turn matches into physical battles, we sometimes struggle to impose ourselves. Technical quality alone is not always enough. You need midfielders who can cover ground, win duels, carry the ball through pressure, and drive the team forward when passing lanes are blocked. Javi Guerra brings those qualities.

His profile is somewhat similar to a young Paul Pogba. I'm not saying he is as talented or as complete as Pogba at his peak, but he has that blend of physicality, ball carrying ability, and the confidence to drive through midfield with the ball at his feet. Those types of midfielders can completely change the dynamics of a game.

Barcelona already have creators and controllers. What we don't have enough of are midfielders who can physically dominate spaces, win battles in transition, and carry the ball 20 or 30 metres up the pitch when the game becomes chaotic. Guerra gives you a different weapon without sacrificing technical quality.

The best midfields are built on complementary profiles, not identical ones. Busquets, Xavi, and Iniesta succeeded because each offered something different. If Flick wants more intensity, athleticism, and physical presence in midfield, then Javi Guerra is not the wrong profile, he is exactly the kind of profile Barcelona should be considering.
