Once in a while I’ll read something that I wish I would’ve written or said. This is one of those things, as was the plea for mercy and grace by Bishop Budde. I’m blessed to work each day with the most vulnerable among us. Blessed to call them my friends. https://t.co/AlgizwqwKP
@Lorena_Baseball@SmedshammerBen@THSBCA If I could’ve coached any athlete that wasn’t at my school, this is who I would’ve chosen. Baseball the way is should be played. Best wishes, Ben!
@KappyEdwards@SVEmisd No question that @KappyEdwards is correct: collaboration between MISD staff and students, as well as between campuses and student support services gives everyone the opportunity to be our best selves. She’s also right in assessing this young man as one of our best and brightest!
I remember being young and thinking 50 was REALLY old. Turns out I was right...I’m freaking ancient, but it’s been time well spent. Becoming a husband, dad, and Pappy to this crew has been the honor and joy of my life. Praying for another 50 to love them the best I can each day.
I always felt my time coaching with Kent was impactful, but I never imagined our retirements would cause the collapse of all levels of baseball everywhere. As a general rule we always accused Armes when anything bad happened, but I can’t find a way to spin blame to him for this.
Having two married daughters has taught me that the time comes when you have to let go. I’m holding onto these two as long as I can (I made them both sign contracts to stay single through their 35th b-days). I am grateful for every single day that God allows me to be a girl dad.
Selling my girls on snowshoeing required three tiny, white lies: it’s easier to do on soft snow, it’s not deep at all, and out of bounds is just a “suggestion”. Honestly, why on earth would they ever listen to me? Lesson learned.
Jan-June for the last 10 years I’ve spend more time with you than my own family. It wasn’t for the love of baseball (although I do!). It was because you built a program that let kids be a part of something bigger than themselves. It was an honor to share a dugout w/you, brother.
First time in 16 yrs I wasn’t on a baseball field for the start of a HS season. Flooded with so many memories. My hope is we were able to make a difference In the lives of the kids that came through our program. Thank you 2 all my former players and coaches for the memories.
49 years: the amount of time it took me to go bald, blind, and totally grey. Coincidently, it’s also roughly the amount of time it takes to get four grandkids to simultaneously look at the camera. Happy Birthday, indeed.
My first return to RHS brought on a flood of emotion, treasured memories, and hope. I’ve zero doubts that I’m where I’m supposed to be, but I’m also beyond grateful for where I’ve been. Thanks for teaching me about what it means to be HOME. You guys are forever in my heart. RNQ.
Why did I coach for 20 yrs? For moments like this. Meet the Oakland A’s new Strength & Cond. Guru: Josh Cuffe. As proud as I am of him for making The Show, I’m far more proud of the husband and father he’s become. Fun to see his blood, sweat and tears result in a dream come true.
A new location, but the mission remains the same: Be humble, steady, and selfless. Earn respect and love by first offering respect and love. Try to leave everyone we encounter in a better place than we found them.
10 yrs with @rocketbaseball by the numbers: 287 W’s, 4 STATE runs, 751 miles to Omaha, 50 kids yearly who heard about humility & selflessness, 1 homeless asst coach, 1 (and only!) JArmes, zero regrets, zero memories I’d trade. Thanks, boys! I’m going to miss all this like crazy.
Thankful beyond measure for this ride...rounding 3rd and heading for home sweet home. Thanks to my girls for allowing me to chase this baseball dream for so long. The best part of all of these games has always been coming home to you.
We apologize for the weather delay. Please enjoy @Jayarmes versus an angry mama fox until the game resumes. Turns out it’s true...there really are over 100 cameras monitoring the goings on at RHS. Pretty sure he discredited his name, his family’s name, and RHS. Love you, John!
300 W’s for @rocketbaseball, all earned the right way: preparing kids for adversity beyond the diamond w/humility & integrity. He’s made RHS the gold standard of 4A baseball. The only mystery is how he ever managed those first 19 W’s w/out the help of an unnamed, bald assistant.
