"Although she was not prosecuted...
Ms Sturgeon was now standing in the dock of the “court of public opinion” after “having shut down debate, closed down any argument” about the SNP’s finances."
Will "truth be out" about Ms Sturgeon, the autocrat?
@joannaccherry The culture that developed as a result of having an autocratic person as the leader of @theSNP and the Scottish government, who just so happened to also be the wife of Peter Murrell. This whole situation should never have been allowed to happen, let alone continue for years.
Nicola Sturgeon made no comment during her police interview, which is her legal right. She is said to have subsequently supplied a written statement.
She was not “cleared” by police.
The COPFS decided there should be no charges.
@Dennynews Though in fact the actual detectives conducting the ‘gold-plated’ Police Scotland investigation believed that there was enough evidence to try Ms Sturgeon. That’s why they sent a file to the Crown Office.
A Holyrood inquiry would clearly not re-investigate Murrell’s crimes.
It would examine the governance failures that allowed a thief to steal from the SNP for 12 years.
Not hard to grasp this distinction.
Joanna Cherry KC, former SNP MP, has called for a public inquiry into Peter Murrell's embezzlement of party funds.
Nicola Sturgeon was investigated and no action was taken against her. She’s stressed today that she had no knowledge of Murrell’s crimes.
@ChrisMusson@staylorish She is up to her neck in this and anyone with half a brain would realise this. A control freak who didn’t know what was going on on her own house, do me a favour
Sturgeon claimed at the time when quizzed about "missing funds" that there was no cash missing from the SNP's accounts and that their accounts were audited independently so wait a minute here....
This accountancy firm who audited the SNP accounts did not notice such a substantial amount of cash missing from them? 🙄
I have also looked back at the newspaper report from when this story first broke and they all give the same details that the camper van was parked outside her mother-in-law's home in her driveway but today Sturgeon said knew nothing about this campervan
So which story is it Sturgeon? She didn't ever visit her 92 yr old mother-in-law? Really!
Report from the Scottish Express at the time this story broke! 👇

EXCL: Nicola Sturgeon refused to comment and sat in silence for hours during her police interview - despite publicly claiming to be "cooperating fully" with cops

Joanna Cherry has told journalists that while she looks forward to the sentencing of Peter Murrell next month, justice 'needs to be seen to be done' to the people in the party who 'actively covered up scrutiny of the party's finances'.
She said: "I feel very angry because while Nicola Sturgeon was squandering the many opportunities that were afforded to the movement to further the cause of independence, her husband was squandering the money that ordinary, decent nationalists had given to the party to do that.
"I am angry and disgusted today.
"I am looking forward to justice being seen to be done to Mr Murrell but justice also has to be seen to done to the people who actively covered up scrutiny of the party's finances." 👇
This is the biggest scandal of devolution. The SNP have tried to blur the lines between the political, institutional and judicial. Nicola Sturgeon irreparably damaged the office of first minister. The public can smell the stench a mile off, it needs a full post mortem.
Nicola Sturgeon claims to have been unaware of the existence of the motorhome. But it appeared on the balance sheet in the SNP accounts for 2021, published on 16th August 2022, when she was still leader of the party, and known to be paying very close attention to the accounts.
@john_ford77@PaulaCoyscot@DalgetySusan Jeez, that's supposed to make sense?
She always wanted people to think she was sharp as a tack, but blind as a bat, or a real dumb ass seems more appropriate now!
It is explicitly what she said.
”In relation to many of the items in question, for example expensive watches and games consoles, I was not aware of them having been purchased at all…
In respect of any items I was aware of Peter having purchased, I had no reason to doubt that he had used his own money…
We were both earning high salaries and, due to the responsibilities of my job, rarely socialised or went on holidays.
@DalgetySusan This whole sorry debacle says a lot about their "marriage" and her ability, or lack thereof, as a leader! And of course she's still trying her best to use her much loved plausible deniability and victim cards...poor wee Nicola!
