I’m not exactly anti-remake, but I’m also definitely not really pro-remake, as I think most anime are products of their time that only worked because of the specific circumstances and the people making them at those times. For example, a remake of 0079 is largely unnecessary. SEED is already flourishing as Bandai’s quasi-modern UC.

The Origin and Doan only worked because Yas was literally there. First Gundam is partly his baby, and he loves that era more than Tomino lol.

However, I do think there’s a lot of creative(and financial) opportunity from remaking things like Char’s Counterattack and F91. As iconic as CCA is, it’s basically only half of the story. CCA would be great as a trilogy or duology; same for F91, beautiful movie, but not the whole story. I personally would love to see my guy director Murase take a crack at F91, since he’s expressed interest in it before and has personal feelings regarding it as an animator.
