29 May 2021-on my 3rd break from Twitter. Sucker for a gimmick, distracted by shinies. Militaria, POWs, cemeteries, maps, ephemera, historic recipes. Own views.
I went of Twitter for 5 months & didn't really miss it. Been back a month or so & not really getting into it & I think I'll clock off it again for a while!
Anyone know anything about #WW1 'trench packs'? Got a German wicker one at work. No info in files about it & I can't recall seeing any in photos. It appears to be worn this way up. Has a nice padded area for the lower back & a waist band for extra support.
@TrenchTrotter@Medical_Int@sommecourt @gibbsemanning @SoSwargaming Thanks so much Tim! I've been off Twitter again so only just seen your response. I greatly appreciate everyone's help with this. Very grateful with how people share their knowledge on twitter. Will have to dig into this further once I am back in the office!
Driving through Nimmitabel today, discovered they had a steampunk event on (today & tomorrow). Then had to explain to my 90 YO grandmother what steampunk was when telling her about it. Thank heavens for the internet because I wasn't doing a very good job of it!
Anzac Day coming up, might have to do some baking. Which Anzac Biscuit recipe should I make? 1916 Anzac Ginger Biscuit, 1924 Anzac Biscuit (with jam & icing) or the 1929 Anzac Biscuit (with dates)?
@zoecharlottejay @Airminded Yep it is virtually a ginger nut. Legally they are not what is officially regarded as Anzac Biscuits if you tried to commercially produce them, BUT they illustrate how the history of the Anzac Biscuit is not quite as defined & clear cut as legend & myth states.
@zoecharlottejay @Airminded Perhaps you need to try some historic Anzac Biscuit recipes for a different biscuit experience. They're quite good! (Anzac Ginger biscuits 1916, Anzac Biscuits with jam filling & icing 1924, & Anzac Biscuits with dates 1929).
@Pipt13 ππYup! Back when I could indulge in sugar ad nauseam it was my fave of all the early Anzac Biscuit recipes. Similar to one published in 1917 but without rice flour, which I found made the 1917 recipe gritty.
There are more modern reproduction Australian themed commemorative bugles out in the world than genuine historic Australian bugles. Here's some tips & info to help tell the difference between the two.

This little one was very annoyed with me this morning. Found in an upright bucket on a pile of things in our garage. Possibly brumating, but as I once found a dead one in a bucket as it couldn't get out, I took this one outside in case it was stuck.
@OldBill504 Oops, forgot to say I checked (just before I took a break from Twitter) & would you believe the cards only go to 'T'! So couldn't identify the location that way. Sorry.
The two extremes of my personality illustrated through parcels I received today - adorable unicorn wicker handbag (from Wicker Darling) versus book about death & war cemeteries (history of the CWGC, The Unending Vigil by Philip Longworth).
@gibbsemanning @KarlJames_1945@RhysCrawley I agree with Cam, although I would consider a slow meander but absolutely NO running! Did the 'virtual' CT 'run' late last year. Was 3rd last for women 10km. Very disappointed with myself for not getting last!
