There’s a book called “The Marching Morons” that’s about a far future where (for various reasons) stupid people have taken over all of the institutions of higher learning and given themselves degrees and now are in charge of everything. The few smart people keep the world chugging along by taking jobs as secretaries or assistants to the dummies in charge and actually running things from the shadows. It’s a great book and I’ve always suspected that Idiocracy started life as an attempt to make a film adaptation of it
At the end of the book the smart people get rid of the dummies by heavily advertising The Sun as being a fantastic vacation destination and convincing the Morons to all get on a rocket and fly into the Sun, liberating themselves
There’s a bunch of other plot elements to it of course, it centers on a man from now who’s woken up from cryosleep or whatever to help, but I’ve given the salient points because I’m pretty sure that we’re well on our way towards Kornbluth’s predicted future, debatably in the middle of it as far as academia goes if not the business world, and we should probably consider starting to build rockets
