Gotta love these kiddos. Another chaperone on the group commented on how good they’ve been 🤗 and I was so proud they chose to picnic outside for lunch and play cards! No phones in sight!!! 🙌
Jam packed morning: we got to see the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington and the Vietnam Memorial. A quick stop for lunch and a visit at Air and Space before we leave. (1/2)
Night walk along the basin to see Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, and MLK Memorial. Sorry I didn’t get any photos at the last stop, it’s been a long day! 18,135 steps!
Supreme Court (from the outside) and then we went to the National Archives (no pics allowed). Really neat to see the three documents that shaped our country.
We got to sit in the gallery of the House of Representatives (no pics allowed) and then took the underground tunnel to the Library of Congress. It was straight out of Beauty and the Beast!
Got to visit the OG President’s house-Mount Vernon! We got to go inside and see where President Washington is buried. Our tour guide Cheri also told some great historical stories about the property.
End of our day yesterday: got a peek at the Lincoln Memorial-it was still neat in the rain! Students got to stand where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I have a dream...” speech.
Today’s agenda includes Mount Vernon!
I forgot to mention that we had a spectacular visit to Ford’s Theatre. The park ranger was amazing at telling the story of what happened. We got a chance to see the museum across the street and reflect on some of our nation’s values. We also got a new guide at one point!
I’ve never been prouder of these kiddos. They walked through the Holocaust Museum with respect and tried their best to immerse themselves in the history. This was not an easy museum to walk through, but they represented Currie and their families very well.
Sharing a seat with our future lawyer in a meeting room at the capitol building-I have to say...you feel pretty ready to talk about laws and stuff at a table like that...
