N100,000 is not realistic — NLC demands N1 million minimum wage from FG

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has dismissed the proposed ₦100,000 national minimum wage being considered by state governors, insisting that Nigerian workers deserve as much as ₦1 million monthly due to the country’s worsening economic realities.

Speaking in an interview on Sunday, May 31, NLC spokesperson Benson Upah reacted to comments by Kwara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who revealed that governors were considering a fresh wage structure of ₦100,000.

AbdulRazaq said the proposal became necessary because of rising inflation, increasing living costs and the growing financial pressure on workers.

But Upah argued that the amount being discussed is nowhere near enough to meet the needs of average Nigerians.

“We consider it thoughtful of the Kwara State governor to propose this, but certainly, ₦100,000 falls far below the realistic figure,” he said.

According to him, the sharp fall of the naira, rising electricity tariffs, higher petrol prices, inflation and the declining purchasing power of workers have made survival increasingly difficult.

“Given the realities around the exchange rate, inflation, raised tariffs, the surge in the pump price of petrol and associated costs, and the effects of the new tax regime, the realistic figure would be ₦1 million,” Upah stated.

He also argued that governments now earn more revenue and should prioritise workers’ welfare.

“In light of the earnings by governments, this should not be a big issue. Check what is being shared at FAAC,” he added.

Debate over wages has intensified since the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira triggered sharp increases in food, transport and energy costs.

Although the Federal Government approved a ₦70,000 minimum wage in July 2024, labour unions insist inflation has already wiped out its value and are demanding another review.

Papiri school abd¥ction: DSS arrests 2 foreigners, 3 others. Recovers 15 AKs

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested five suspected arms couriers, including two Nigeriens, linked to the November 2025 att+ck on St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, where nearly 300 students and staff were abd¥cted.

Security sources disclosed that the suspects were allegedly supplying w+apons to the g¥nmen behind the mass abd¥ction.

Among those arrested are Yusuf Mohammed, also known as Bature, a wanted member of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (Boko Haram), and his associate, Mubarak Ibrahim.

The duo were reportedly intercepted along the Zaria-Kaduna Highway while travelling to receive a consignment of arms for t+rrorist commanders.

A follow-up operation led to the arrest of another suspect, Goni Ibrahim, said to be an international arms courier from the Diffa Region of Niger Republic. He was apprehended alongside an accomplice, Tukur Sani.

Security operatives reportedly recovered 15 AK-103 rifles, 15 magazines, and 1,434 rounds of 7.62mm live amm¥nition concealed inside a blue vehicle used by the suspects.

Days later, another alleged member of the syndicate, Alhaji Adamu, also known as Gado Banufe, was arrested in Yauri, Kebbi State. He was said to be a major arms supplier operating around the Kebbi axis.

According to the sources, preliminary investigations revealed that the five suspects acted as arms couriers for the g¥nmen who att+cked the Catholic boarding school in Papiri on November 21, 2025.

The att+ckers, said to have arrived on motorcycles in the early hours of the day, stormed the school and rounded up students and teachers at g¥npoint before whisking them away.

I deeply express my concern over the unfortunate disappearance of Miss Eunice Ameh, who was reportedly last seen on the 6th of May, 2026, at about 5:40 PM, shortly after the close of work around Lake Chad Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, while heading towards Life Camp.

This development is both painful and deeply troubling, not only to her family and loved ones, but to all members of society who value human life, safety, and dignity. Incidents such as this remind us of the urgent need for vigilance, compassion, and collective responsibility within our communities.

I hereby appeal to residents of Abuja and the general public to assist with any useful information that may aid efforts to locate Miss Eunice Ameh. No information is insignificant. Anyone who may have seen her, interacted with her, or observed anything unusual around the stated location and time is kindly urged to promptly contact the nearest security agency or reach out to her family.

I also respectfully call on the relevant security authorities to intensify efforts towards ensuring her safe and immediate return. In situations like this, every passing moment matters.

May we all stand together in humanity, empathy, and solidarity until Eunice Ameh is found safe and reunited with her family.

Abia State University corruption is so deep.

Here is the strategy lecturers use in extorting their students.

They hire course reps as agents. The course reps communicates to students via WhatsApp to pay for their "prayer point" or "work with".

These are code names used for handout and sorting.

Students are forced to pay for handouts and also pay for sorting in most courses otherwise they will not pass exams even if they get everything correct.

The monies are paid in cash only through the course reps that gets their own commissions.

Some lectures there also do sex for grades.

These practises are the reasons we have low quality graduates in our universities.

If you can pay to get good grades, why then should you study?

These same set of lecturers will be hired by INEC to be your returning offices in 2027 election. Then you wonder why Nigeria is not moving forward.

We need to dismantle that criminality in our universities now and save Nigeria's future.

Ms. Love Dooshima, the businesswoman who made a review about an unarmed bread has just been released from police custody at Zone 7 Police Headquarters.

We received a distress call this night that she honoured police invitation since 12pm on Monday, April 20, 2026 but she was detained afterwards.

I came to Zone 7 this night along with @p_oruche and @peter4.

Following the intervention of the IGP, @TunjiDisu1, she has been released at 12:30 AM today, Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

Nigerians are to pay the new transfer levy of N50 for a N10k transaction and above, imposed by the CBN. Let's not forget that Nigerians are already paying excessively for SMS notifications, monthly maintainance, bank cards, ATM usage, VAT, etc. We also pay heavily to purchase data used to use these bank services thru apps, and spend heavily to purchase fuel, diesel, or solar used to power the gadgets used.

You will think a govt that wants to encourage cashless policy will make smarter decision; But no, and to make matters worse, this ridiculous decisions also affects Fintech platforms.

A lot of Nigerians stopped using traditional banks due to excessive charges, only for the govt to still frustrate their efforts.
