Title: Girls in the Chapel
By: Sophia Anderson
Nationality: French
Year: mid-19th century
Size: 68×54.8cm
Category: Kids
Material: oil painting on canvas
Where it is now: Foundling Museum, London
It depicts a foundling girl praying in the chapel of a foundling hospital, a religion that was an important part of hospital life in the 19th century. All hospitalized children were baptized and the girls were orphans who had been left in church.
The children held the Bible and seemed to be listening to the explanation. The soft light shines on their immature and clear faces, giving people a sense of tranquility and peace. The girls do not seem to lose hope for the future because of the confusion of the past and the present, and they still face a new day with an optimistic and positive attitude.
Sophia Anderson (1814-1876), French painter, she was a self-taught artist who specialized in paintings of women and children. She grew up in France, but emigrated to the United States in 1848 to escape the Revolution. After marrying an English artist, he moved to England in 1854. She devoted herself primarily to genre paintings depicting women and children, especially in rural settings.

The baby in the painting is a two-year-old princess, and the artist was commissioned by her father, the Prince of Liechtenstein, to paint her.
The little princess is lying on a soft pillow, holding her beloved doll in her arms, her chubby little arms are like a snow-white lotus root, her cute curly hair glows golden in the sun, her thin eyebrows and long eyelashes , the cute upturned nose, the small mouth that seemed to be smiling, the plump double chin, and the luster on the pajamas perfectly set off this cute and warm moment. Who would not want to kiss such a baby?🥰

🌺Lotus, this eternal Chinese romance, always makes people feel the tranquility and elegance. Whenever you walk into the lotus pond, you feel as if you are on a quiet lake, making you forget the noisy world outside.😊
Every season of lotus blooming makes people feel comfortable. Against the backdrop of the blue sky and white clouds, there is a touch of pink in the emerald green. That extraordinarily shy look always makes people appreciate it involuntarily.🪷
Lotus is not only beautiful, but also has profound cultural connotations.
The lotus is a symbol of elegance, elegance, noble character, and innocence.

Name: Daughters of Edward Darley Boit🥰
Author: John Singer Sargent
Nationality: American
Year: 1882
Dimensions: 221 x 221 cm
Category: Kids
Material: oil painting on canvas
Author: John Singer Sargent
Current Collection: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
Sargent was a friend of the Boyett family. The Boyetts are obsessed with travel and are Americans living in Paris. The painting is not as elaborate as other painters of the same period, and Sargent's fluid and unrestrained brushstrokes are closer to the Spanish Baroque painting style. Sargent's keen sense of color, excellent technique of depicting children, and wonderful brushstrokes full of hints are worthy of being a masterpiece of realism.👍
One of my favorite parts of the painting is the dress of the little girl Isa on the left, half light and half dark. Sargent showed the dress with bright brushstrokes and power. You can almost see the gesture of his painting, because the brush strokes are so obvious, layer by layer, this is the most interesting part of this work in terms of painting technique.🥰
Under Sargent's brush, the pair of splendid porcelain vases shone with light. Here’s another take on white that shows how the hard ceramic surface reflects light as opposed to the soft texture of the girl’s apron. But he did not show all the design details of the porcelain bottle in the picture. You can feel Sargent's creative thinking, he handles the picture in detail and properly, with his professional perspective.
Sargent did not arrange the four children aged 4 to 14 in the center of the picture to form a pleasing group. On the contrary, each girl has a highly individual performance and does not interact. Sargent once again exerts the charm of light and shadow, clarity and haze, and the girl is facing or facing away from the light from an invisible window. The works highlight the expressive techniques of the people in the paintings to varying degrees, which is rare in traditional group portraits, and the square format is also unusual. In addition, the asymmetrical composition, empty space, and isolation of the figures add to the restlessness in the tranquility.
The picture conveys information about the girls' personalities and their relationship with each other: the youngest daughter, Julia, sits comfortably on the carpet, independent of her sisters in terms of posture and position; Mary Louisa, who is slightly longer than her, stands on the whole The far left of the painting, fully receiving the light, establishes her unique position; Florence and Jane, the eldest two girls, stand at the blurred entrance, Florence leans on the porcelain vase, unable to see her face clearly, and Jane Anxiety in the shadows. As they grow older, they become more and more alienated, their innocence gradually loses, and they step into an unknown world.

Name: Wedding signature
English: The Wedding Register
By Edmund Blair Layton
Nationality: British
Year: 1929
Category: Situation
Material: oil painting on canvas
Specifications: 91.4*118.5cm
Collection: Private Collection
This painting depicts a couple getting married.🥰
A beautiful bride is wearing a white wedding dress, with a white flower on her chest, a wreath on her head and a white silk scarf, bending over and holding a quill pen on a book Signed, and pressed the corner of the book with the other hand. The groom stands next to the bride with a top hat in his hand, watching the bride sign with concentration. Behind the bride is a little flower girl holding a white bouquet and the people who came to the wedding. Opposite the bride is an old man who presided over the wedding.
Behind the bride, a little flower girl holding a white bouquet is staring intently and slightly nervously at the bride's signing hand; the couples who came to the wedding are chatting relaxedly.
Opposite the bride is an old man presiding over the wedding.
On the table, the white gloves and handkerchiefs taken off by the bride, the Bible and the ink pen holder, etc., seem to be drawn randomly, but in fact they are delicately and realistically depicted.
Sunlight pours in from the window in the upper left corner of the picture, mostly shining on the bride's body. Under the sunlight, the wedding dress looks whiter and softer, which strengthens the holy image of the bride. In contrast, Layton's depictions of the figures and surroundings surrounding the bride use a slightly darker and subdued tone.
The painting is a late work by Leighton, but like his earlier works, it still belongs to the distinctly English aesthetic style. The lyrical shape, soft colors and delicate depiction in the picture make the beauty of this work directly hit people's hearts, and it has become a classic that many couples specially refer to when taking wedding photos.
