Sophia Anderson (1814-1876), French painter, she was a self-taught artist who specialized in paintings of women and children. She grew up in France, but emigrated to the United States in 1848 to escape the Revolution. After marrying an English artist, he moved to England in 1854. She devoted herself primarily to genre paintings depicting women and children, especially in rural settings.

Sargent was a friend of the Boyett family. The Boyetts are obsessed with travel and are Americans living in Paris. The painting is not as elaborate as other painters of the same period, and Sargent's fluid and unrestrained brushstrokes are closer to the Spanish Baroque painting style. Sargent's keen sense of color, excellent technique of depicting children, and wonderful brushstrokes full of hints are worthy of being a masterpiece of realism.👍

One of my favorite parts of the painting is the dress of the little girl Isa on the left, half light and half dark. Sargent showed the dress with bright brushstrokes and power. You can almost see the gesture of his painting, because the brush strokes are so obvious, layer by layer, this is the most interesting part of this work in terms of painting technique.🥰

Under Sargent's brush, the pair of splendid porcelain vases shone with light. Here’s another take on white that shows how the hard ceramic surface reflects light as opposed to the soft texture of the girl’s apron. But he did not show all the design details of the porcelain bottle in the picture. You can feel Sargent's creative thinking, he handles the picture in detail and properly, with his professional perspective.
