The aftermath of Hurricane Melissa reminds us how urgent it is to rethink our approach to design and construction. As recovery continues, we must commit to building communities that can withstand the growing challenges of climate change.

Woke up to this message in one of our diaspora hurricane relief groups and everyone agreed:
“Good morning can i make a suggestion, humbly? Before we begin purchasing and shipping items from abroad, I’m asking us to think strategically. Jamaica may have businesses that already sell many of these same products. Instead of bypassing them, can we identify and buy directly from local suppliers. That approach strengthens the economy, creates jobs, and accelerates recovery from within.
This isn’t just relief. It’s rebuilding with dignity and strategy.”

The location of affordable housing matters. We have too often in Jamaica created suburbs of poverty - new housing so far removed from schools and working opportunities that the cost of transportation becomes a significant challenge towards sustainable development

Listening to @Monocle_Radio Tropical Modernism as an invention of and response to colonialism. Unfortunately the exhibition has the Caribbean as a footnote even though they are home to some of the old examples

Many years ago, architect Patrick Stanigar conceptualised a walkway and park from Victoria Pier to Rockfort, similar to Havana’s Malecón, to best take advantage of #Kingston, #Jamaica's scenic shoreline. A year ago “Port Royal Street Revetement" completed. Let's keep this going.
