With due respect, every time such a debate comes up, we seem to slip into a defensive tone; as if whenever a Bharatiya citizen turns to crime or terror, the fault must somehow lie with our great nation or its system. As if the nation failed them. This guilt-ridden narrative has become our biggest weakness.

Let’s be honest. This phenomenon is not unique to Bharat. Across the world, from the Middle East to Europe and America, many highly educated, well-off individuals have chosen the path of terror. From Osama bin Laden to London and Brussels attackers, they were not victims of poverty or neglect. They were victims of poisonous ideology and blind religious indoctrination.

Clearly, education and economic prosperity can't guarantee protection against radicalization. In fact, there are so many instances where education and economic strength has been misused by a terrorist to become even more deadly terrorist.

The real question is: what kind of ideological indoctrination convinces people to kill innocents in the name of faith or revenge? What kind of social conditioning glorifies hate and martyrdom over humanity and nationhood?

Unless we have the courage to call out the ecosystem that breeds this poison, from religious extremism to global funding networks that fuel it, we will keep blaming ourselves while the real culprits walk free. And sadly, that ecosystem operates globally, well-funded and well-organized.

Instead of questioning our own society every time, perhaps it’s time to ponder: why does this radicalization emerge from the same ideological trenches again and again?

Terrorism is not born out of poverty or discrimination alone. It is born out of hate, indoctrination, and a deliberate distortion of belief systems.

Terrorism is not a result of injustice. It’s a disease of the mind and it thrives when we confuse fanaticism with victimhood.
