In 1977, Newsweek published an cover story called "Seeking Other Worlds" which, in part, profiled Carl Sagan. This article ended with a quote from Carl:
There are over 120,000 children eligible for adoption in the United States right now and more than 400,000 in the foster care system.
So, when I see pics of these conservative married couples holding a sign that says “Don’t abort — we’ll adopt your baby”… I just don’t buy it.

The problem with the framing: "doing X won't save the planet" is that it applies to everything.
No single thing will solve climate change.
If our threshold for taking action is whether it will singlehandedly solve all our problems, we will do nothing.
