HB3979 will now be heard by the Senate Committee on State Affairs on THURSDAY, so you still have time to contact members & tell them why they need to vote NO on this harmful bill. https://t.co/W5Z7uagt5M
Also, share written testimony here: [email protected]
HB 3979/SB 2202 will not support students if they are experiencing distress, & it will further hinder teachers in supporting civic discourse.
Please share with Senate State Affairs members why removing content will harm your instructional practice and negatively impact students.
@MorganLealMEd@TxSocialStudies It would need to be done by those who are using certain realtors & their companies. That is also why so many minority home buyers seek out minority realtors.
@region10ss@TxSocialStudies@KellyBellar It helps if you have the means to get your students to & from the campus; however, when you are limited with time and transportation you really have no choice but to stay at your home campus.
@TxSocialStudies Schools, near the city, continue to be the most segregated. The same pattern of home buying consists but with different incentives. USDA home loans for first-time buyers force many low-income families to move to areas further off leading them with a limited choice of campus.
@TxSocialStudies Gentrification saddens me. The Austin location that was of course least desirable is now an area that is rapidly pricing people out of life long neighborhoods. No amount of donations to the AA Cultural District/the Carver Museum can bring back the legacies that were once there.
@TxSocialStudies It's interesting to look at Austin and discover how many Freedmen communities were out west and how those communities were forced east and now further east (Manor) and north (Pflugerville) of Austin.
Coming soon! Ellison & @BavuBlakes invite u into a story - El’s Mirror weaving the social, emotional journey of a black boy understanding himself in a historical context while navigating school age friend groups, teacher perceptions and zero tolerance discipline. #HipHopGrewUp
"By not discussing African Americans of the past with the full range of human experience in mind—never teaching the triumphs with the trials—these narratives feed this perpetual lie of white superiority that we should be working hard to break."

Great learning about Culturally Relevant Teaching! How are we building cognitive capacity? That is the question I’m posing to all teachers from here on out. #TSSSA2020
