@EddieComeaux@UCLALawReview@DrUJayakumar It's crazy how the top private schools such as Princeton and Yale have more athletes admitted compared to the public schools. When you think of these Ivy League and top private schools you think they would pride themselves on academics and diversity.
@trinbans @KatryaLy Hi Trinnity,
with this being said, what can we do as a society and as students to change this? Also, what do you think the schools should do to change this? #UCR50@KatryaLy
I have never heard of admission by exception (AxE) which admits applicants who don't meet requirements but show a lot of potential to succeed. Do you think this is a good idea? I wonder how many schools do this? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@annette_are@TA_ED50 I completely agree that athletes should have the right to be compensated for their own image. With this being said, how can this be changed, how can athletes receive more for the work they put in? #UCR50@KatryaLy
We see all the time athletes being accepted into competitive universities just because of their athletic abilities. Is this fair for the rest of the students? Does there need to be a line drawn at some point? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@JenGom225@KatryaLy I completely agree! What steps do you think need to be taken so that there is full equality between men's and women's sports? #UCR50@KatryaLy
There is an underrepresentation of women coaches and athletic directors, specifically women's sports. What are different ways we can address this and try to change it? #UCR50@KatryaLy
It is shown that in certain sports, there is a higher percentage of white athletes. What can be done as a society as well as the university, to change this? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@Mariaplasmerc@abhornUCRedu I think that it is really sad that there is a risk to the student-athlete's health because of identities. The schools don't help with this either they put extra pressure on them as well as label them as something they are not, especially academically. #UCR50@KatryaLy
Top division I schools may have more resources and help for their student-athletes compared to other schools. Do you think there is too much help that gives them an unfair advantage compared to the rest of their peers? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@lady_atmos @TA_ED50 Hi Karina,
I think you brought up good points and you would think that the graduation rate would be higher. In my opinion, the reason the rate is so low is that the athletes aren't prepared or cut out for the workload in the classroom and their sport. #UCR50@KatryaLy
Throughout the years, NCAA has come a long way to help the student-athletes be more successful. We see that the graduation rates have increased and surpassed the nonathletes, however, what other support systems can be added to increase the rate more? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@seancaster24@abhornUCRedu Hi Sean. I believe it is important to distribute the money in ways that will help the school. Football brings in a lot of money, so it makes sense why the head coach gets a high pay. However, it could be really beneficial to increase funds to add value to the education aspect.
Out of the $503 million division I revenue distribution, why does basketball get the most at $202 million? Do you think this is fair when the academic enhancement program only receives $24.6 million? What does this say about our education system? #UCR50@KatryaLy
@seancaster24 Team captains and the leaders of the team play an important role in the team's success. While the captains may not even be playing, they contribute to the environment and vibe of the team. #ucr50@KatryaLy
