Pete Crow-Armstrong of the @Cubs is one of three players in MLB history to have a month with:
.375+ batting average
.775+ slugging pct
80+ total bases
15+ walks
10+ home runs
5+ stolen bases
The others are Babe Ruth (June 1920, July 1920, May 1930) and Lou Gehrig (June 1930).
The Mets are bad, bad right now. You absolutely needed that sweep. PCA still locked in. Way to get it done gentleman. Keep playing good ball and let’s have a fun rest of the summer!
Something special about your ball club putting up a crooked number in the top of the first. Watching them do it at the federal landmark, 1:20 on a Friday, is magical.
@FullCountTommy You are the one I go to when I need to come back to reality. You seem to be the most realistic and centered Cub fan on here. So I ask, did the Cubs just make the wrong moves here? Are we just bad? Injuries to arms to much? Feels more like a '21 than a '18. Am I just wrong?
RIP. You were the soundtrack to the Bulls for me, and millions of others. We were so lucky. Always such an odd feeling, mourning someone you never met or actually knew. Stacey is one of those that hurts more. In our living rooms living the ups and downs with us. Damn.
I am sitting here wondering where all the Pete-Crow Armstrong haters went?
The ones that posted a play where he lost a ball in the sky and were acting like he’s a lazy/bad defender.
Where are they now that he’s hitting 19-46 (.413) with 5 homers amidst an 11 game hit streak?
@sahadevsharma@PJ_Mooney@NSideTerritory As a person covering a team with contending in mind, how hard is it to cover this team that just does not show emotion off (and barely on) the field? It seems it's just a revolving door of "well be fine" or "just have to keep your head up, long season". Has to be hard to cover.
@Michael_Cerami Don’t worry Michael, they are all super good teammates and don’t let the failure get to them. There’s so much time left! That’s all that really matters! To hell with winning, the Cubbies are super nice guys!
Losing 2 in a row to the Athletics is where ya lost me. Pathetic effort. Can’t wait to hear how there’s 100 games left and they are so sure it’s gonna turn around. Some do it right like the Dodgers and others try to be them and fail like the Cubs. Thank God for that rain delay.
First, I think Craig Counsell is a great manager—he's demonstrated competency managing volatile bullpen situations and league-wide is ranked by players as among the most desirable managers to play for.
I don't love his handling of the media. At the same time, I don't even think it necessarily matters either in terms of "winning games." This is purely media engagement.
I do think if coaches/execs want to be "perfect," they can learn a thing or two from past Cubs execs and coaches and others around the league (Francona, etc).
Craig's body language can be off-putting in pressers and some of his answers to questions implies that the question is "stupid," which to be fair some are. The way he handles himself in these pressers makes him seem pompous, dismissive, and unlikable.
So when Craig appears to the media in a manner that doesn't reflect how he leads a clubhouse, the "narrative" that there is a lack of fire or care or whatever starts to amplify. And strictly from a fan's point of view, I find the narrative distracting, unenjoyable, and entirely preventable by Craig himself. Nevertheless, I don't think it has any meaningful effect on the team's ability to win games and is at the end of the day not a big deal.
