@mpershan Respectfully, that adverb efficiently is doing a lot of lifting. It’s like saying pay day loans work if you use them responsibly. I don’t doubt that this method may work for your students, but I teach too many remedial students at comm. college who can’t efficiently multiply 8x7.
@ValaAfshar Masterful technique in each! I’m not certain these are the same individual.
If it is, he has two different strokes. The first is the stroke used in the early 90s and the second/third is the one first used in the late 90s/early 00s.
@mattyglesias I’m sometimes in favor of ai content. With politics, probably less so. Either way, you have followers that cannot distinguish between ai and actual photos. Indeed, unlike this one, sometimes it’s impossible to tell. You owe it to those followers to always tag an ai image.
“Within hours of a Feb. 28 missile attack… Pentagon personnel knew the US was responsible”
Mar 7: Trump - “It was done by Iran”
June 24: Trump - “I don’t think it was us.”
This will go down as one of the most appalling tragedies of the Trump admin.
Trump has now banned CNN, MS NOW and POLITICO from entering the White House grounds.
That’s not all. He is threatening that more news organizations who criticize him, including the New York Times and Washington Post, will be next.
Why? Because when demagogues like Trump are in trouble they want to control the flow of information and silence media that might hold them accountable.
We will not allow Trump to undermine the First Amendment, the Constitution and our democracy.
We will not accept authoritarianism.
Fight back.
Closing out the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas, President Trump asked those in the audience to raise their right hand.
He then led them in a pledge, to him, that they would vote in the midterm elections, registered or not, and to try and "cheat like hell." https://t.co/yvO5tUFK5p
I feel like the people criticizing this letter have not really taken the time to read it
Tao is not saying that AI should not be used for math
In fact, I think that he is an advocate for using AI to support math research
What he is saying is that there is a problem with the big AI companies racing to check off as true or false big famous problems because the approach they are taking is not advancing human understanding
The goal of math is not to simply check off as true or false a list of things, but rather to increase human understanding of human thought
And right now, while I guess it’s sort of interesting to know the answers to these problems, human understanding is not really being advanced and the things that were valuable about math in the first place are getting lost
This is a very thoughtful point and it is not simply “gatekeeping” or whatever
I disagree, and this is a false comparison. You know mathematicians well enough to know that they’re not making an employment argument. And I know you know the difference between a proof that illuminates versus an ugly bruiser. (I’m not a mathematician, just a dilettante.)
If AI mapped a cure for terminal pancreatic cancer I don't think anyone would dare complain about its effects on medical unemployment.
But people are upset that AI can solve math problems and cause unemployment in performative mathematics.
Fuck them.
