"Given the renewed public interest, it is well overdue for Afeni Shakur to emerge from the shadow of her son and take her place as one of the mothers of the Black Power Movement," writes @cx_dong today at @BlkPerspectives. https://t.co/6FI3wp8qjt
@profblmkelley Put some greens, ham and an egg in it and then add some spices and sesame oil and it’s an okay dinner. I’d never eat it just out of the pack.

@WhatAboutClass It is! But I like the idea of maybe one monograph. I TAed for Glatthaar’s survey and he assigned three short monographs and two shorter memoirs so the heavy readings can work.
The system of parenting that creates Asian American model minorities is often emotionally and physically abusive. The pursuit of an elite education was not worth the cycles of self-destructive behavior ingrained into me by a culture that only valued narrowly defined success.
The reversal of affirmative action serves white supremacy by giving them free rein to discriminate based on an ever changing array of “color blind” qualifications while cutting of interracial coalition building.
What saddens me more is the vicious anti-Blackness that runs in Asian American communities. This Supreme Court case exploits the real anxieties of Asian Americans and gives them the specter of “undeserving” Black and Brown students as the enemy.
I’m going to say the obvious: The reversal of affirmative action will not result in a “flood” of Asian American students into elite universities long term—it will only change the goal posts of success to benefit white supremacy.
Every year I read a lot of grad school applications from accomplished people that don't give me the info I'm looking for. It feels like a major hidden curriculum thing. So here's (my opinion on) how to write a great Statement of Purpose/Research for a PhD program. 🧵 1/
There's a vicious and intentional violence in how America treats poor people. I've been thinking about how to frame the intimate pain caused by "structural" inequalities in my own writing to make that visible.
Today, we address a historic injustice by returning the Benin Bronzes, magnificent examples of Benin's culture and history. Through this repatriation, we acknowledge a legacy of cultural theft and do our part to return African culture to Africans.
