Descending Stories ✅
Still in manga form it was amazing. I think the rakugo stories in the were a bit more engaging in the anime but other than that they are very comparable. 8.5/10
Adabana ✅
It betrays its own structure in favour of a prolonged flashback that’s half the length of the manga that just reveals pretty much everything. They don’t even lead into it in an interesting way it just happens. It’s still a decent read just bland structurally. 5.5/10
Also the unexpected eerieness some characters create is very well crafted. A bit hand fisted with its dialogue at times but I think the subtleties in its art make up for it. The mystery is very well paced and every reveal feels deserved. Can’t wait to see how it ends. 7.5/10
Kowloon🔛
Loving this. It’s discussion on regrets through the lens of nostalgia creates a very intriguing perspective. Some of the most tender romantic scenes that you can just fell the wamth/heat from. Every pri/sec character feels important to both the story and each other.
Anyways Aquato saves the day and passes on. We then get some relatively fine epilouge stuff. Overall I thought this was more interesting movie than it actually was for an hour of its run time. Still won’t stop me from looking back fondly at those first 20 minutes tho. 5.5/10
Ride Your Wave ✅
Ahhhh damn you were so close to being one of the greats!!! This movie can very neatly be split up into 3 “parts”. First part being superb, Seconds interesting in one strong element and third being slightly counter productive to everything else.
But it turns out Aquato has been real the whole time and can actually effect things and other people can see him now. Which really sours most of the things i liked about the middle section. Aquato is still a coping mechanism but not as strong of a one as I thought.
