Coder, husband to Melissa, dad to Corwin & Richard. I am large I contain multitudes. He/him/his. Now on Mastodon @[email protected] and @[email protected]
Welp. That’s about it then folks.
I wish you all well. Find me on Mastadon: @cypherfox@mas.to or @cypherfox@counter.social
Any Mastadon link is blocked by Twitter which…tells you all you need to know about how bad it’s gotten. Remove spaces:

@rebexxxxa I’m sorry; an otherwise context-free tweet, “Emu girl is a milkshake duck.” is the most terminally online thing I may have ever read.
The layers of context you need to peel back, or just…KNOW…make it a perfect parfait of perpetual internet addiction.
@terrencetalbot Weird place to reach out to you, but is there any chance you still have the rights to The Hit List and would be willing to share the source and build process? It would be 100% personal use; the bugs are making it impossible to use on modern macOS and I miss it. :(
"the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness"
Democracy works when practiced thoughtfully.
Demagogues rile up the madness of crowds… The first task of would-be politicians is to resist demagoguery.
It’s better to lose to a thoughtful crowd than win a mad one.
@NeolithicSheep In ‘90 through ‘92 there were a half-dozen furry homes in Silicon Valley that encouraged folks to come out, crash on the floor, or in spare (or not!) bedrooms & taught furs tech skills. Sysadmin mainly, but QA and coding, network management & more. It was friends helping friends.
I'm sorry but if you are unreliable, I do NOT think you should be a narrator. Conveying trustworthy information is LITERALLY your job. If you are tragically lacking in self-knowledge or blinded by your own unwitting biases, maybe you are not the right person to tell the story
inspired by real events please enjoy this one page RPG called "I do not want a mastodon" in which you are given a mastodon you do not want by well meaning people who do not understand that you do not want a mastodon
@RMFifthCircuit This is going to be taught in business schools as an example of how awfully a takeover can go, when the new owner fundamentally doesn’t understand the business.
Also, how badly poorly thought-out hastily implemented features can go.
Just…very educational lessons all around. 🤣
My kids found an old eBay ViewMaster from eBay’s annual report one year. The elder kid called it ‘VR for old people’ and the other called it ‘like power point’, where you press the lever to switch slides.
I created @ cypherfox on https://t.co/MsXs5PGkme as a backup. Not leaving yet, but this place & it’s new management isn’t doing so well.
#CounterSocial (CoSo) has problems but I appreciate the focus on fighting disinformation & trolling, and none of the other options impress me.
BREAKING: Elon Musk called for a meeting with Twitter workers and displayed a document with a list of rules to protect free speech on the platform. This document was quickly leaked online showing the 34 rules.
To see this leaked document look up "Elon Musk Rule 34" on Google.
I don’t… I can’t even…
“So this is how liberty dies…with thunderous applause.”
There is no context in this speech, even beyond this snippet, that makes this any better, at least according to the news sources I’ve been able to search. This is a horrifying naked power grab. 😔
