@H0tdish @sh33p_purple @t0kerfr0g @Quints_Revenge@One_T_ You know, of all possible accusations this seems to be the most ridiculous. You are one of the realest people that I know, consistently willing to help another & stand by your morals. You have walked beside me for years now, regardless of what came.
@coincident_io Did you actually read the paper you are quoting? The scope of the work is contained to the specific platform reddit and it's ban on hate speech. They even go on to say that the users just moved elsewhere & became someone else's problem. Which is exactly what I pointed out.
As much as people don't want to hear this:
De-platforming doesn't fix the problem. It merely removes it from your immediate sight.
It's pretty much the same as pulling the blankets over your head when you hear a bump in the night.
@discreetsecure@MrTurkey It can, to a point. However, the mindset is already in the windowlooker already to some degree. Otherwise, they would not be swayed to the ideology through the memes. It doesn't fix the problem itself, it just slaps a bandage on the wound that continues to fester underneath.
@0xvext@coincident_io 0x is correct. If you are interested, I would recommend reading the book by Pete Simi & Robert Futrell. A crim & soc ethnographic study into thier hidden spaces. It is higher level but enlightening. https://t.co/L2fff8sIda
@coincident_io The platforms are not what created the groups, they are merely one vehicle of communication that has only recently (in terms of these groups) has been used. Music was used prior for example. The platform simply makes the more visible to the outsider.
@MrTurkey Well with arguing one is generally talking AT someone not TO them. Bringing them in & loving them as you put it, removes the need to be defensive and opens communication. Your value to the individual increases over time, then your words have greater impact to them.
@MrTurkey Keep being a seed for the good and bring those you can over. Some, as morbid as this is, will have to die out. But there are many that can change their belief structure.
@MrTurkey Yes, shunn them. But don't fuel them in the process. The rejection of the behavior has to come from the people that they place value in for it to have impact on the belief system.
@MrTurkey There is no quick fix in all honesty. The true change comes from the many individuals changing their mindsets & fading from group participation. I'd love for there to be a magic fixit wand, but most of them come from environments steeped in hatred. It's multigenerational.
@haroldsmith3rd @darksim905 Follower count really doesn't matter in all honesty. People are swayed by those that hold value to them more than the random dude on Twitter.
Following a torrent of consumer requests for cash payments from embattled credit company Equifax, data breach victims who filed for a $125 settlement check will have an opportunity to change their selection and opt for free credit monitoring instead https://t.co/AjIMm2ukKm
