The Eagles have traded for EDGE Jonathan Greenard, per ESPN
They are sending No. 98 this year and a 3rd next year and are giving him a 4-year, $100m deal with a whopping $50m guaranteed
Some thoughts:
** Wow. This is a major, major investment in Greenard. More than usual for Howie when it comes to an EDGE, who prioritizes the position but also doesn’t usually pay this kind of money. They clearly love him as a player.
** Greenard has had a career of ups and downs.
His sack production has come during a two-year span in a 5-year career:
2020, 2021, 2022: 10.5 sacks (33 games)
2023 and 2024: 24.5 sacks (32 games)
2025: 3 sacks (12 games)
A major dip last year, which is somewhat concerning…but:
** The good news is his pressures were still good last year. He has 228 pressures in his career and they are somewhat split like the sacks but better in 2025:
2020, 2021, 2022: 44 total pressures
2023 and 2024: 137 pressures
2025: 47 pressures
So as many pressures last year as the first 3 years combined, which is encouraging
** The money is what is shocking. That is a lot of money for Greenard, who is going to be 29 in May.
** Jaylx Hunt and Greenard are now the EDGEs of the future
You know what I love about the Flyers. Every time I’m watching them when they pan up to the press box to show Jonesy and Brière they are laughing, enjoying themselves, and staying positive about what they’re trying to accomplish with this team. They WANT to be Flyers. This ain’t going to change overnight. Look at Buffalo and Detroit. You need positive people who love their job and their team. Go Flyers Go.
