These are 20 year old recommendations so treat them accordingly: BEACHES
Agios Prokopis (The best side is where the little chapel is located)
Plaka (The section from the Waffle House onwards is the best part - Note: There are nudists here)
Mikri Vigla (The left side is more sheltered from the wind and calmer. The right side, also called Parthena, is more beautiful, but when it’s windy, there are a lot of windsurfers/kitesurfers)
Glyfada
Kastraki – Pyrgaki
Alyko (On the right side of the road, there is an abandoned hotel, and just below it are two lovely and relatively quiet beaches—one is nicknamed Hawaii)
Tip: The southwestern part of the island has the best beaches. A very beautiful beach that is quite difficult to access (long distance, bad dirt road) is Kalantos.
On the rest of the island, it is worth visiting Abrami (NW), Apollonas (N), Moutsouna, and Psili Ammos (E).
EXCURSIONS
Route 1: Chora – Apollonas (Coastal route via Engares village)
Stop at Agia to see a ruined tower right by the road and a beautiful path that leads to an old monastery with plane trees and a natural spring. In Apollonas, you can see the Kouros (a massive, lying statue) and enjoy some ouzo at the seaside fish taverns. If the weather is nice, you can also go for a swim, though it is generally hit by north winds and gets huge waves.
It is highly recommended to take the mountain road back, passing through the village of Koronos.
Interesting detours along this route:
A visit to the Monastery of Argokiliotissa (after Koronos)—a beautiful, peaceful landscape of wild beauty.
A drive down to the coastal and wildly beautiful village of Lionas (the village of actress Gizela Dali). You will see the Emery Mines along the way. The descent is quite steep.
Returning via Kinidaros Village
A beautiful route through the mountains, passing through 2 or 3 traditional villages.
Returning via the road to Apeiranthos
Stop at Apeiranthos: A highly picturesque village. Park your car at the entrance of the village and walk through the cobblestone alleys. There are nice cafes and ouzeris at the beginning of the village, as well as in the middle of the cobblestone path, which offers the best views.
Food recommendation: The taverns "Lefteris" and "Platania" are highly recommended. Make a reservation for "Lefteris". The locals speak their own distinct dialect and are generally very unique people.
Stop at Filoti: The largest village of mountainous Naxos. Very lively. The main promenade is right on the road that passes through it. It features a beautiful central square for coffee and desserts under the plane tree. There is a great pizzeria called "Tou Katsani" right on the square, and a very good souvlaki shop serving local meats (their own production) and their own cheese.
Stop at Chalki: The old administrative center of mountainous Naxos. Beautiful alleys and old traditional cafes (kafenia).
Stop at Sangri: A noteworthy archaeological site with a brand-new museum.
Day trip to Koufonisia
Drive to the small (makeshift) harbor of Volakas, and from there take Prasinos' small boat (kaiki) for a 15–20 minute ride.
Directions: Head towards Apeiranthos and then towards Moutsouna. From there, turn right towards Psili Ammos (a very good road). As soon as the asphalt road ends, in about 2–3 km, you will see the small harbor of Volakas on your left (right about where the power grid cables end).
WHERE TO EAT…
Axiotissa: Beautiful tavern with great views and amazing food. Located on the main road (18th km) to Kastraki / Alyko. [Tel: 22850-75107]
Stou Karavasiliou: Fantastic traditional souvlaki shop in Filoti.
Lefteris: In Apeiranthos. The cheese pie (tyropita) and the stuffed burger patty (bifteki) are highly worth trying! [Tel: 22850 61333]
Stis Eirinis: Located in Chora, at the port. A classic Greek tavern.
I Gorgona: Right on the small harbor of Agia Anna. The main attraction is the owner, Koula. The "mountains" of french fries and the fried calamari are absolutely worth ordering.
For Rooster (Kokoras) in Melanes:
Option 1: The first tavern you encounter on the left side of the village's main road. It has a great view, good food, and a large variety.
Option 2: Vasilis Xenakis' tavern in the middle of the village. It is older, but the rooster and all the side dishes are home-grown/homemade and fantastic. [Tel: 22850-62374]
Italian (Pasta & Pizza):
"Amore Mio": In Plaka (right on the waterfront).
"Il Girasole": In Chora, at the port (amazing tomato pesto).
Mexican:
"Picasso": In Chora, at Agios Georgios square. Fantastic food and perfect cocktails. [I highly recommend booking a table on the small balcony (Tel: 22850-25408), as it is always full]. There is also a "Picasso" branch on PLAKA beach (open since Summer 2004).
NOTES & QUICK SNACKS
The small ouzeris in Chora, roughly in the middle of the harbor promenade, are highly worth it.
For crepes, souvlaki, and stuffed baked potatoes, head to JackPOT in Chora.
Fantastic homemade ice cream and waffles at WAFFLE HOUSE (located both in Chora and at Plaka beach).
For traditional pastries, amazing loukoumades (Greek donuts), and ice cream, go to RANTEVOU in Chora. There is also a drive-thru/branch of Rantevou on the road from the airport to Chora, at the cinema intersection. A great option for breakfast "to go" or for the beach.
BARS & NIGHTLIFE
Island: Amazing cocktails and an exotic environment... feels like you are in the Caribbean (Located in Agia Anna).
NOTOS: In Chora, hidden in the narrow alleys. Its rooftop terrace is highly recommended!
Jazz Bar - Lakrinti: In Chora.
Splash: In Agios Prokopis, great for afternoon drinks right next to the beach.
Final Tip: Walk through the narrow alleys of Chora and discover small, non-touristic shops. The walk up to the Castle (Kastro) and watching the sunset at Portara are absolute musts!
@igorsushko Wake up and smell the roses: everything we all do is in shelf interest. So, what's new apart from the fact you're not that bright to realize it? You're doing a disservice to your country.
I hear you and I’m long $ASTS, but you have to admit: mgmt knows better than the market that space is hard. Their launch forecasts, therefore, should incorporate this. Unless they’re hyping, which usually works until it doesn’t. So there’s no hiding from the fact that $ASTS mgmt overpromised on the launches. The unfortunate failure of the BB7 launch brought all that to the fore, hence the price action. The market now focuses exclusively, and wrongly IMO (but it is what it is), on the 30d shipping of the next batch promise. Lets see.
@_A_khalifa largely agree yet you have to admit, you did not support Europe in its war with Russia so you shouldn't be so surprised/upset by the quid pro quo.
@SantiagoAuFund@DarioCpx sure they do. they just forgot to check how much of S&P's profits are coming from these regions. and let me not mention who's buying those treasuries. ooops
@SFarringtonBKC This is big. I wish more people talked about this. and, it's not only AI. Actually AI, hasn't even kicked in yet materially. We're currently experiencing covid era productivity gains. As AI kicks in, agents, robotics etc, we're facing a massive productivity gains cycle.
@AndreasSteno Yes! Exactly as I hoped it would go. US leadership is disconnected from reality. Did they really think they would actually help Orban by intervening?
@igorsushko@Freewor30833853@garside_geoff You're talking about the same Europeans that are spending billions to support Ukraine? Talking about being ungrateful, arrogant too. Sure, mistakes were made and much more should have been done from the start but negating Europe's help they way you do is just childish. Grow up.
@Vmaxpax Funny thing is they actually think they're helping Orban get elected. Am I the only one who sees this as a death knell for Orban's hopes of reelection?
