@patriciaamg16 @yusrasiddique98 4-in my other response, I wrote about how I’m just organizing and not leading the discussions. Reserving that space for diverse voices I recognize as more qualified to speak.
@patriciaamg16 @yusrasiddique98 3-through videos, awareness campaigns, bills to increase the dialogue around systemic racism & share POC stories. Remembering what I saw in HS, this a new avenue focused directly where we can have a big impact, the Walnut community.
@patriciaamg16 @yusrasiddique98 2-canvassed/protested against SOI discrimination used largely as a proxy for rejecting black tenants, & wrote and introduced a bill sealing eviction files, yet another proxy for racism. This is not a new fight for me. I’ve been working,
@patriciaamg16 @yusrasiddique98 1- Hi,we've never met I understand but don’t want anyone to think I’m”performing” for the BLM movement. After HS, I’ve spent 3 yrs uplifting POC voices against systemic racism in housing. I’ve filmed & shared the stories of black/POC tenants, helped them testify in my statehouse
@yusrasiddique98 I think we can both agree there is a problem & an imp solution is to create dialogue so ppl aren’t hurt in these ways again. Again, I am not trying to insert myself, but rather making space for other voices. That’s the point of this open call!
@yusrasiddique98 As a WOC at a mostly white college who faces this kind of covert racism everyday, I am sorry that my own past actions hurt you in the same way. I’ve explained this more in my DM, and while I can’t change HS, we have an opp now to not repeat these mistakes as a community
@yusrasiddique98 (2/2) intentions and I know that the use of the n word is a problem at walnut and have called out people I know who’ve said it. Also I do appreciate u bringing this up and want to hear ur feedback, if u have any advice on how to make this series more meaningful, let’s talk!
@yusrasiddique98 (1/2)Hey, I just DM’ed you to talk! I promise that we’re not trying to be performative and start meaningful conversations, b/c or else concerns like urs would never be addressed. I’m really sorry if I made a hurtful comment to you in HS & have never meant anything with mean
Y’all can understand a white kid shooting up a school cuz he was bullied after 4 months of school but don’t understand why an oppressed group is compelled to burn shit down after 400yrs
Sis snatched off those colourful wigs and placed on her political lace. She means business and every word she said is true. — this is what using your celebrity voice and platform right looks like.
