After thinking about it for a long time, I felt I should still come forward and say something. Because I don’t want attention on my personal life, I opened a new account.

First of all, I sincerely thank all the fans for your concern. After the incident happened, we were immediately sent to a nearby hospital. After examination, my bones and ligaments were all fine; there were only some abrasions. As the injured person, I can guarantee that Kim Ryeowook was not like how some unethical media accounts described him, turning away and ignoring us. On the contrary, after I fell, while I was still dizzy and couldn’t figure out why I was down there, Kim Ryeowook and other staff had already appeared in front of me, asking whether we were injured. Afterwards, other members also came to check on the situation.

After following the staff to the hospital, we underwent X-ray imaging to further confirm the injuries. While waiting for the results, Ryeowook and the manager appeared at the hospital and continued to care about us, communicating with the doctors and confirming our treatment plan. Another member later rushed to the hospital where we were being treated, despite the heavy rain, to visit us.

I was the last one to leave the hospital (one of the girls went to another hospital midway; I heard that later Ryeowook also went to that other hospital to check on her condition). Ryeowook, the member who came to visit, and other staff stayed with me until the very end. Ryeowook even guided my friend downstairs to find me, and another member accompanied me in the elevator and helped carry my bag.

I don’t understand why those unethical media accounts and some so-called passersby, based on out-of-context videos, would make random speculations and imagine things that never existed. After returning to the hotel and seeing these false messages, I felt truly angry, so I carefully wrote this post.

Here, I also sincerely ask the fans who were present: if possible, please do not continue spreading videos and photos from the scene. And I ask onlookers to focus the issue on venue safety.

A thought About Donghae’s Solo 🐯

Foreward: I sing praises to Donghae (and also to Hyukjae because they come as a pair) and clearly this review is purely observational and my own interpretation. I’m not here to add fuel to the fire and I am only here to send love and support to Donghae 🐯❤️

This is a part 2 to this series (you can find the link to my raw thoughts about Hyukjae’s fancon in my highlights, where I said I have an entire write up on Donghae.) I had to hold myself back so that I can pour out my thoughts in one long blurb.

Donghae definitely wins no.1 in my heart when it comes to fun and creative idea generations and meticulous plannings. Well, in theory both he and Hyukjae share the no.1 spot in my heart because they come as a pair and cannot be separated. But the recent crap coming from twitter and threads are a real sore and I won’t iterate it anymore. There needs to be some love and celebration for his solo debut.

Because, in my so many years of observing self-made (or self-produced solos), there aren’t many that you can count with both hands. Yes, there are many out there in the KHH side but how many could bring it to scale while doing 30 world tour shows, where about a third of it were unplanned. Not many, and I won’t say names but Donghae is one of them. I respect his bravery. No soul like him is brave enough to bite the bullet and face all the hurdles by himself to make this happen. Despite every challenge being thrown at him (knee pain, back pain - how can we forget that 8 injections to stabilise his back pain, tight deadlines, additional impromptu shows, administrative work, Tempus and Haru); he made it happen. And to say he is calm throughout all of this is an understatement. I think this man isn’t just being held together by sheer willpower and adrenaline, but he’s literally being held together by the mental support of every one out there and all 8 other SUJU members. Remember, Donghae is the biggest baby amongst the 9 of them and they treasure him so much that they’re willing to go beyond lengths to support him.

Alive = 13 tracks? I’m crying for his thoughtfulness of SUJU. He never forgets his roots. He stays humble that way and it is a trait I personally respect him for. At least, he earned mine. So did Hyukjae. You can’t discredit the other when you praise the other I guess.

We all also know that Hyukjae is Donghae’s biggest support. He isn’t just a colleague or friend but he’s Donghae’s lifeline at this point. Hyukjae knows how precious this piece of work is to Donghae to the point he doesn’t want to interfere with his choices. Hyukjae never tiptoed around him and openly provides support to Donghae, always ready to catch him if he ever falls through, and always uplift each other at any opportunity. Donghae’s decision to make his solo debut wasn’t easy. He mentioned in the past how D&E was formed because he didn’t want to be on stage alone but he could do it now because he has grown incredibly as an artist. Not only that but he had also fought hard and wants to return the love of fans by giving us an entire full solo album, handcrafted by him, written by him and planned by him. He lurked around every corner to get market insights, to ask us what’s better and to even get our opinion on what our preferences are. The quality of the production would be outstanding. Just looking at the lineup is incredible.

Donghae outsmarted all of us really, and I think he also used his connections to the best advantage he can. A collaboration with Tablo? People’d be dreaming for that. Collaboration with 1iL? Everyone would love that. Having jelly and 1iL on almost all the track credits? Every producer’s dream. And having the legendary Jay Park be part of the production? The entire KHH industry would fight over for it. I have seen what value genius producers can do and how connections can impact the success and presence of a solo. Yes, Donghae’s personality may differ from Hyukjae, which is why they both have very different aesthetics for their final product. Hyukjae probably envisioned something completely different from Donghae and it is more than alright. There is no need for comparison. They have something more precious that every idol in Korea would love for: freedom. I don’t take it for granted and I don’t think Donghae ever did too. He capitalised the freedom well and handpicked something he liked so he can have the confidence to showcase something incredible. To say he stays within a comfort zone is a lie. He popped out 13 completed tracks in less than 6 months, and to constantly work on full throttle is an absolute beast move.

Some even said he used AI. Well, I think the best approach we can do here is; let’s take a step back and understand that not every 3D graphic produced out there is AI. AI can be used as a reference and don’t lie to yourselves as if you have never used it out there. Instead, let’s give some credit to the person who made the design come to life, give credit to Donghae for figuring out the whole space concept. Those who work in media can resonate with me that 3D media creation from scratch is annoying and it requires more than just a creative mind, especially on Blender and After Effects (as an example only). The physics behind it is a whole league of its own. I work in tech and I can tell you Generative AI (or any AI model really) is hard to train (because I went bent hell on trying to get it work which did not) and an experienced designer with an trained eye would be able to highlight and fine tune all the little details that Donghae has in mind. AI doesn’t read minds and even if you put in detailed prompts, the output sometimes is just.. wack. In fact, I saw someone on twitter saying that in an episode of Danny Show, he did technically mentioned about “love in a different planet”; hence space concept isn’t like new. (Also it’s not new like have ya’ll even see the amount of space inspired references by other artists? It’s common) But creativity has no limits and Donghae just made the best out of it. It complements Hyukjae’s bunny character well. And it should be because they are a pair. ODE was birthed from Donghae’s love of creation and we should celebrate the good and bad together with him.

And for the music production and composition. I doubt it’s AI, if you noticed closely (or those on you who have been on Fromm long enough), you would have seen something on his monitor and there were at least 8-10 layers of masterings with various MIDI sequencing. I’m no musician but I know enough on how some systems operate and that doesn’t look AI to me?? If it’s anything, it’s raw writing and recordings and someone would have to painstakingly sit down and master all the recordings, be it audio or vocal. Who would it be? Of course it’s Donghae.

Throughout the last 4-5 months, he was stressed out. He had his worries, he had his concerns and they’re all valid. He accepted the challenge, and made his said commitments come true. He doesn’t want to disappoint us and put an enormous pressure on himself. I think if I am right, I think he had multiple days (at least on 3 to 4 separate occasions) where he said he hasn’t slept for more than 24 hours. He wanted to plan all the little details by himself, how he would want to surprise us with goodness, how would he present this to us, what’s the best way to showcase this without overwhelming himself. It is a lot of mental work and a lot of coordination for one person. He took the risk in a good way and I think it’s really brave of him to do so.

Of course how can I forget, he listens. He listens so well to us. Long-timers elfs and Annie’s know that Donghae loves to watch our interactions on Twitter. His interactions with us are real and raw. He doesn’t shy away from it and he’s bold enough sometimes to even call us out in the funniest possible way. He reads all the comments, he knows what we’re doing out there. If you ask me, I think a lot of our day to day positive interactions gives him the positive energy that he needs.

He flourished us with goodness and love for his career. He came alone from Mokpo to find an opportunity in life. SM was a turning point for him at adolescence, he is now at a different stage of life and ODE is another turning point for him. His solo debut is complementary of his career journey and he has an outstanding value and presence in the industry. His gift from god is different to Hyukjae and should never be compared. Hyukjae’s performance agility is his biggest strength and Donghae’s musicality (and producing skills) is his biggest strength. Both have different arena’s to showcase, and both have different things that they want to show. ODE is the platform for them to do so.

Donghae’s solo will FOREVER be his baby. An evidence of his blood, sweat and tears. He cherished the entire process and I am sure he would want us to feel the same. At least for me, I can feel his hard work that went into the production of it. His artistry screams mastery and he vibes with it. His excitement is also so raw and real that I could imagine him just shedding tears of relieve when he completed the 13th track. Especially when everything is finalised and approved (jokes on us of course Hyukjae will approve it). His merit is never to be disregarded and he proved us again and again that he has what it takes to be inspired, to fully execute this entirety with grace. At this point, he is a literal living cultural artefact that a lot of juniors use his case as a reference point now. I’m proud of that for him! 🥹

The best we could do is support him, in any way that fits our ability and celebrate the joy together with him. I will always forever appreciate the bond that he has and he is the literal glue to the SUJU we have today, and D&E as well. D&E would not exist without Donghae and SUJU isn’t SUJU without Donghae’s touch of finesse. Lets celebrate all the effort he had poured out, all the sacrifices he made, encourage his little choices on the production and foster a positive environment for him. He doesn’t need anymore negative banter, he doesn’t need any judgmental views. What he needs is just our love to him and validate his hard work. We all have our little well wishes for his back to have a speedy recovery (okay, this is provided he decides to sit still for a few days but we know it’s impossible) and most importantly..

Congratulations on the debut Donghae! I might not be able to make it to any of the concerts but do know that I resonate all of goodness and love for your success! ❤️❤️❤️

🐤: I truly believe that age is just a number. Why should we do less, be more cautious, stop doing certain things, or take breaks just because we’re getting older? Of course, rest is very important—and when I rest, I really do nothing at all.

But the reason I keep maintaining and taking care of myself is because I want to keep going for the next 10 or 20 years. I’ve spent 20 years in this field, and now that it’s been 19 years, I feel like I can do it all over again for another 20 years in the same way. If I complete 40 years of work, I think I’ll be able to retire without any regrets.

By then, I’ll be in my 60s. And if I reach that age, I’ll feel satisfied knowing I worked hard for 40 years (or 45 years if I include my trainee period). I’ll feel proud that I lived diligently, didn’t give up, didn’t get worn out, and gave it my all.

When I reach the 40th anniversary, I’ll be able to say without regret, “Okay, now I can enjoy my personal life.” That’s my goal. Maybe something new will come up when I’m in my 60s or 70s, but what I really want to say is that I live each day without regrets and work hard. I’ve successfully completed 20 years, and I feel ready to run just as hard for the next 20 years too. If I live like this for 40 years and someone tells me, “You’ve worked hard, you can stop now,” I think I’ll be able to stop and retire with complete peace of mind.
