They've doubled the numbers of humans making (as you rightly say) SUBJECTIVE decisions. Actually increasing the number of possible outcomes for incidents. Goalline/Hawkeye is clear cut and reliable.

The pundits spend hours dissecting VAR post game, presenting multiple versions of what they might have been thinking. The VAR ref is an extra variable that can decide whether to intervene on any incident. More humans, more errors.

Client journalism where they push club/player propaganda in order to retain access. It's all very transparent, you don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to see it!

But football is one big PR exercise, and relentless coverups over decades that can't happen unless the press are complicit. It's a racket, no one who's career depends on it would ever do real journalism. One big grift.

The implementation of VAR is opaque enough that it's design makes you question the real motive. A fixed view that it's just incompetence and suggestion of corruption is deluded is more outlandish IMO.

@kpm584 Humans make mistakes and with VAR there are now more of them involved in the process! It's all very opaque, they could shut down conspiracy chat by making their thinking transparent in real time as in rugby/cricket, they don't want to. Why? The refs don't trust themselves.

Working backwards from a conclusion.
