@LeonidasNFT Renumbering = hard fork. Projects that depend on the immutability of the inscription numbers will have no choice but to hard fork. Which will inevitably result in the weakening of the ord protocol. It's a defining factor, IMHO. We should avoid renumbering.

When an inscription is assigned a number it should never change.

When a sat is assigned a number it should never change.

When a sat is assigned a name it should never change.

When a sat is assigned a Rarity like Uncommon it should never change.

These principals matter.

But then, genetic provenance isn't retroactive - it's impossible to apply it to earlier inscriptions (which makes sense for a trustless protocol to be restrictive against declaring a parent post-factum).
