@Ccunnin23@YouTube Great overview of ethnographic research. Emphasis on participant observation as the primary data collection method for this qualitative approach. Thanks for sharing! #frer7130
@CodyNRyal Yes, the numeric vs. narrative data dichotomy is basic way to distinguish b/w these quantitative and qualitative research. It is also important to carefully read these terms as it easy to misread them, especially in a quiz situation. #frer7130
Week 9 prompt: Your choice - post anything related to course, content, quiz, and/or research. You can make a comment, ask a question, share a resource, etc. #frer7130
@greerslatin Funny video! I like the serious questions/comments posed by cartoon son! Note that narrative research can be conducted with more than one individual (there is a slide near beginning that says only done with one person). #frer7130
@DanaRyal This is a great idea - they take studies from academic journals in psychology and pull out the most important findings to share with teachers. #frer7130
@BrittanySS6th Yes, this is ultimate goal of all research. However, in Quant research, one does this by trying to establish relationships b/w variables w/ hope of generalizing results to population. Qual focuses on in-depth study of one setting/phenomenon through lens of participants. #frer7130
@BrittanySS6th Great overview of qualitative research! The field of nursing is a leader in conducting qualitative research which makes sense given the nature of their work. #frer7130
@greerslatin Great list to considering when formulating research question(s) for study. The RQs drive the type of study & while some topics lend themselves more to quantitative or qualitative, sometimes you are in situation where you can make a choice about research approach. #frer7130
Interesting column on children's curiosity - links to both quantitative and qualitative studies. "Scientists are discovering that curious learners from low-income households perform as well as affluent students." #frer7130 https://t.co/1GdQKvgiqI
@CodyNRyal Wow! This is a great example of involving students in data collection & analysis. I like how they took their qualitative data & quantified it for math lesson. #frer7130
Week 8 Prompt: Locate & share (post) online resource related to QUALITATIVE research. Please review what others have posted in #frer7130 to avoid duplication.
@salem_teske Great checklist! It is always important to ascertain quality of published articles, whether qualitative or quantitative. The fact that it is peer-reviewed & published does not guarantee that research is high quality. Some journals have higher standards than others. #frer7130
@salem_teske This research disproves myth that qualitative research is easier. These researchers visited 153 classrooms in 27 schools across the country to collect data. Thanks for sharing! #frer7130
@Metter_ILC Yes, this is a classic qualitative research study using the case study method. Data collection tools include interviews, observations, and student diary forms. These tools result in narrative data that can be analyzed for common themes and patterns. #frer7130
βHeβs changed our school!β A principal makes the case for therapy animals: "Boomer is one of the most sought after staff members for his ability to enhance many components of social and emotional learning." https://t.co/qGprEqi0gr #SEL
@Ccunnin23 Note inclusion of direct quotes from participants in results. This is common in presentation of qualitative research findings. Thanks for sharing this. #frer7130
@BragdonHayley Thanks for sharing this qualitative study example. Note the use of interviews, observations, focus groups, and document review for data collection. Note also how RQs began with asking "How"? #frer7130
