My main reason for opposing these data centers, is that people really should be learning how to effectively use technology, and instead of putting their data out on 3rd party servers, should self host on their own hardware and use VPN's for their home networks. If my simple monkey brain can do it, then literally anyone else can do it. It just takes time, patience, and a yearning to learn, as is with anything else.

I have 3 raspberry pi's that are used for a media server (Jellyfin), a cloud storage server (Nextcloud), and a home controller (Home Assistant). Combined, these use less than 100 Watts of electricity, and no special circuit, just 115V Mains and mostly powered by a small USB charger. No water cooling, no large data center, no electric company jacking up rates, and there are AI models that can run on your low power hardware. You don't really need Grok, ChatGPT, Claude to run outside of your network anymore.

There are plenty of plug and play options that do require some cheap hardware, and some learning. But if you can get a domain name, learn how a server works, and schedule regular backups, then you can self host rather than paying a large company to do God knows what with your data.
