After a long break, we're finally back with Dev Diary #13!
New locations, S.O.U.L. technology, baseball bats, ragdolls, and a bit of wasteland fashion!
Check out what we've been working on!

In this tutorial, I show how to make a snow material using Unreal's Substrate. I also show how to make the snow accumulate on top of objects using Nanite Displacement.

In this tutorial, I show how to make multiple types of car paint using Unreal's Substrate. We start with the most basic type and work up to a much more advanced version.

You’ve asked us about the games that inspired ExeKiller, so here are nine that left their mark on us! 👀
Some echoes are easy to spot, while others are buried a little deeper. 🤠
The text version of "Profiling with Pirates" is up! Check it out if you really don't want to see @mattOztalay and me in pirate costumes singing a shanty. Or if you just prefer text/images over hour-long videos, like me 😄 #uetips

Hey friends! I'm probably gonna have some extra time for design freelance work (or more?).
My career:
- LD at Arkane Lyon for almost 8 years
Dishonored IP, DEATHLOOP, Marvel's Blade.
- LD at Crytek for 2 years
Crysis 4, HUNT: SHOWDOWN.
- Shipped THRESHOLD as a solo dev.
Soon after I released FPOM for unreal a few weeks ago I started getting questions about IHP, claiming it was better and faster. Without any benchmarks to show for, just words using FPOM as an example of "bad". 😔
So I decided to package a benchmark with all the different POMs so people can see and test for themself!
Included IHP, FPOM, RCSM (Gold standard to beat tbh), UE5 POM and Nanite Displacement!

Have you been wanting to get into game performance optimization, but don't know where to even start?
The UE Performance Optimization Learning Path now contains over twenty tutorials, most of them from Epic Games, sorted by skill level.

In this tutorial, I show how to use the Second Roughness inputs on a Substrate Slab in Unreal to gain more control over the shape and appearance of specular highlights and reflections on your material. https://t.co/m1HJA68GfR
Finding your way in ExeKiller won’t be straightforward.
Navigating the ruins of a post-apocalyptic world means reading the landscape, checking your Telectron, following road signs, and finding your own way forward.
Luckily, some landmarks are harder to miss than others. 🗽
In this tutorial, I show how to use the Fuzz input parameters on the Unreal's Substrate Slab to create the edge effects on surfaces like cloth, skin, peaches, etc.

I finally put together a dedicated landing page for all my Unreal Engine optimization content.
It collects my tutorials, long-form videos, UE5 release highlights, and sample projects in one place:

I’ll keep adding to it, with a lot more coming soon!
