Librarian/Publisher of Award-winning BORDER CROSSINGS: Coming of Age in the Czech Resistance. Firsthand account WWII, Cold War. Endorsed by Madeleine Albright.
Happy Birthday, Charles! Always in my heart. In his book he said, “I was born [at home] on May 11, 1928. My place of birth was Ožd’any, a small village near the border that lay between Slovakia and Hungary..." Shown here in 1999 with Mr. Horvath his childhood neighbor.
An executive order mandates the elimination of seven agencies, including one that funds libraries around the country: the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
If carried out, the order will jeopardize free educational, reading and literacy programs, internet for those without home access, homework and tutoring assistance and other resources for the public.

It is noteworthy and significant that Caroline Kennedy, who is famously private about family matters, felt moved to issue this searing indictment of RFK Jr.'s nomination as HHS Secy.
Cecile Richards was a tireless advocate who dedicated her life to empowering women.
As Planned Parenthood’s head for over a decade, she led the fight to protect women’s right to choose.
As we enter dangerous times for reproductive health care, her legacy is a guiding light.
🕯️Today marks 56 years since Jan Palach's tragic death. A student who tried to awaken the Czechoslovak society from the lethargy of Soviet occupation.
His sacrifice reminds us that freedom is worth fighting for, even in the darkest times. We will never forget.
72 years ago at 5:40 a.m. on Nov. 12, my husband’s uncle Josef Robotká was executed at Pankrac Prison in Prague, Czecho-Slovakia. He was 46 and a leader in the Czech Resistance against the Nazis and the Communists during WWII and the Cold War.

CRANES FOR OUR FUTURE
Every August, people around the world honor the victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I’m sharing a paper crane to represent my hope for a world free of nuclear weapons.

It’s #InternationalLipstickDay! Post WWII Charles’s sister Vlasta still worked in the Czech resistance and was arrested for treasonous activity in her apartment in Brno on 8.6.1949. On a mirror she wrote “I’m arrested” with lipstick for her boyfriend to see. She served 18 years.
