Subject: Meta AI Disabled on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Outside US - No Legal Restrictions in LatAm - Request Feature Parity for Paying Customers
Category: Ray-Ban Meta > Meta AI > Not Working Outside US
Message:
Hello Meta Support Team,
I am writing as a paying customer of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses purchased in the US. I am currently based in Peru, where Meta AI is fully available on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook.
Issue:
Since firmware v123+, Meta AI has been geoblocked on my Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses when outside the US. Before v123, I could access Meta AI via VPN without issues, confirming there is no technical limitation. The current block appears to be GPS-based and was introduced deliberately in the latest updates.
Key points:
No legal restrictions in Latin America. Peru and most LatAm countries do not have battery-removability laws, AI Act, or wearable restrictions like the EU. There is no regulatory reason to disable Meta AI here.
Feature parity concern. I purchased hardware that advertised Meta AI as a core feature. Geoblocking it for traveling customers who legally bought the device in the US creates an inconsistent and unfair user experience.
Meta AI is already available in Peru. The same Meta AI service runs on Meta's apps in my region without issues. Blocking it only on the glasses is inconsistent product policy.
Impact on early adopters. This policy penalizes international users and travelers who support Meta's hardware initiatives. It contradicts Meta's goal of making AI accessible.
Request:
Please enable Meta AI for Ray-Ban Meta users traveling to countries without regulatory restrictions, including Peru and LatAm.
If a full rollout is not possible yet, please restore the pre-v123 behavior that allowed access via VPN for users who purchased the device in a supported region.
Provide a clear public timeline for international Meta AI availability on Ray-Ban Meta.
I appreciate Meta's work pushing wearables forward. Disabling core features based on GPS for paying customers outside of regulated markets damages trust in the product.
