Blue-haired, rainbow-flavoured infantologist at large.
Author of The Laughing Baby (pop science) and Babies Laugh (picture books)
One of the most fun bits of writing The Laughing Baby was naming the chapters and picking epigraphs for each one. So here they all are.
🤣👶📘🧵
Thanks to @AstroKatie for the idea.
I have a new website. It's a work in progress. 🏗️(Modern Wordpress is miserable to use.)
But expect more laughing baby blogging in near future. 😆👶

@BlokesClub@MrBuddwing65 Good luck. I'm one month into a year off alcohol. I gave up from my 39th to 40th birhhday. Learned a lot in the process. So I'm doing it again from 49 to 50. In the past decade non-alcoholic beers have improved massively. 🍻
Another marvellous day at @edbookfest starting with Peekaboo baby psychology with @czzpr then cookery-science with @sai_path followed by drawing trees and animals with @LydiaMonks then a wonderful, creative, seriously cool high-fantasy storytelling event with @JanelleLMccurdy!
@AnthonyJBurt@edbookfest @sai_path @LydiaMonks @JanelleLMccurdy Thank you for looking after me and helping with the baby wrangling. Good look with your own reading and the rest of the festival. Hope to see again next year!
Am very excited to be @edbookfest for my @Bookbug_SBT day job, listening and watching the brilliant @czzpr do a session with some wee ones & their adults on laughing, tickling, peekaboo & their importance.
summary of my current view of LK-99 superconductor saga:
- LK-99 levitation is likely due to its relatively strong diamagnetism combined with weak ferromagnetism in parts of the sample causing a torque (https://t.co/iOpQygx8lX)
- LK-99 high-low resistivity transition is likely due to Cu2S contamination (https://t.co/XjSkSHFGXV)
- inconsistency of replication is likely due to contaminants and under-specified synthesis (without Cu2S contaminant, you won't observe resistivity transition, and without some non-uniformly-distributed ferromagnetism, you won't observe half levitation)
- The "second" phase transition in which they claim to measure zero resistance is likely due to measurement error; they're measuing extremely low current without very-low-temp instruments.
researchers spend a decade+ dicerolling lead crystal synthesis and measuring it with extremely low current. they diceroll into something contaminated with Cu2S, giving a resistivity cliff at 380K, which they assume is superconductivity. They observe half-levitation caused by ferromagnetism and diamagnetism in the sample, which they assume is meissner effect. one person on the team publishes early and things get out of hand
So @CostaCoffee depicted a trans masc person, and transphobes are angry and shouting #BoycottCostaCoffee (obvs). Shockingly to them trans people exist, and might drink coffee. Anyway, as a trans man with similar scars, thank you Costa for the representation 🏳️⚧️
Simona Kossak (1943-2007) Polish biologist, ecologist, author, PhD in forestry, and uncompromising conservation activist
They called her a witch because she chatted with animals and owned a crow, who stole gold and attacked bicycle riders.
She spent more than 30 years in a wooden hut in the Białowieża Forest, without electricity or access to running water. A lynx slept in her bed, and a tamed boar lived under the same roof with her. She was a scientist, ecologist, and the author of award-winning films, as well as radio broadcasts. She was also an activist who fought for the protection of Europe’s oldest forest. Simona believed that one ought to live simply, and close to nature. Among animals, she found that which she never found with humans.

In this poll of LGBTQ+ Britons, just 3% opted for ‘LGB’ - the acronym used to deliberately exclude trans people.
This shows lesbian, gay and bi people overwhelmingly see trans people as part of their community.
So stop pretending there’s a civil war over this. There isn’t.
