In de Volkskrant van afgelopen zaterdag stond een analyse van de Gaza oorlog, gepend door de krant zelf. In dit stuk schreef de krant: “de nazaten van de slachtoffers van de Holocaust zijn zelf dader geworden”.

De krant bedient zich hiermee van een klassiek antisemitisch mechanisme: het toeschrijven van negatieve eigenschappen of daden aan een hele bevolkingsgroep, ongeacht individueel gedrag. Daarbij worden Joden ook nog eens gelijkgesteld met beleidsmakers in een ander land, Israël. Ze krijgen een collectieve schuld toeschreven, op basis van hun afkomst en geschiedenis.

Deze zinsnede maakt bovendien een directe morele en historische vergelijking tussen de slachtoffers van de Holocaust en vermeende daden van hun nakomelingen, waarmee het unieke, systematische karakter van de Holocaust wordt gebagatelliseerd, en de herinnering eraan wordt misbruikt voor hedendaagse politieke doeleinden.

Zulke vergelijkingen zijn niet alleen feitelijk onjuist, maar versterken ook antisemitische stereotypen en vijandigheid tegenover Joden als collectief.

De stelling is een krant onwaardig.

To be clear: any third-party websites selling Esquie plushies are NOT officially licensed. Many of them are using AI-generated artwork to advertise, and we strongly recommend against purchasing from these sources. They could be scams.

But here’s the wheee to balance out the whooo: we are looking into making official Esquie plushies, and we want to bring them to you as soon as we can. In the meantime, please be patient — and don’t get scammed!
