@Brent593@BradBeauregardJ@SpeakerMcCarthy The majority of additional spending was because of several endless wars, 2 different tax cuts (lost revenue), the pandemic, and a combo of deregulating banks and the shipping of jobs overseas (Great Recession).
@Miro94748140@SpeakerMcCarthy So, you would be ok with terrorists bringing their grievances to our soil for resolution? Who would protect our companies and citizens around the world? Like it our not, our economic security is affected by what happens around the world.
@Rasam1776@SpeakerMcCarthy Oh sure....how did they work out for the recent bank failures and the Great Recession? Regulations are needed to prevent harm to our communities from greedy people.
@PopularLiberal@SpeakerMcCarthy I know that the reason the Dems had to increase the debt limit several times was for cleaning up the messes created by Republican administrations and policies. The Great Recession was a prime example
@davidackley56 @SpeakerMcCarthy Apparently you want to live in a third world country then? It takes money to be the greatest and wealthiest nation on earth.
@JIvchenko776 @SpeakerMcCarthy And which agencies and departments do you think are unnecessary. Also, any cuts to social welfare programs wouldn't have much of an impact on the budget as their costs are not that significant. The agency with the largest budget is defense.
@Sheepdog7320 @SpeakerMcCarthy Nothing like cutting off your nose to spite your face. So, you are ok with Russia taking over Ukraine and eventually all of its former soviet bloc countries and becoming an even greater threat to us?
@Dpete9Peterson@TheZChrist@SpeakerMcCarthy That doesn't make any sense. Federal taxes are collected (and should be) by the Federal gov't to pay for expenses that benefit all states. What you are suggesting is that every state pays its own way, which would be disastrous for red states that depend on blue state revenues.
@Brent593@BradBeauregardJ@SpeakerMcCarthy Democrats may have had a majority in both Houses, but not enough of one to rescind the tax cuts. No Republican would ever vote to rescind tax cuts. Anything to do with spending requires 60 votes in the Senate. Dems only had 50 + the VP to break ties on non-spending legislation.

Here's an idea....how about repealing Bush & Trump tax cuts (4 upper 10% bracket), keep spending at last years' budget levels (except for Ukraine military assistance), return unspent funds 4 COVID, & remove all oil subsidies.
FTX transferred $2.2B to Sam Bankman-Fried, new management says. I wonder if this happened before or after it collapsed? Fricken grifters.

America's digital ad disclosure laws are way out of date, and online advertising is an easy way for secret spending to enter our political system. As CLC's @ErinChlopak explains, Congress has the chance to close these gaps in our laws through the Honest Ads Act.
