Linear models make learning fractions SO much easier than area models. So why do so many programs use pies and pizzas and other area models? Because that's the way it's always been. Status quo? Just say NO. We can do SO much better!
On a lighter note, here's a fun pictarithm to do with your A.M. coffee. When I create my holiday puzzles, I have specific math concepts & teaching objectives in mind. Can we lead & encourage kids as young as grade 1 to model/solve this problem, first on paper and later mentally?
2nd graders loved sharing their mathematical reasoning and strategies when comparing numbers! Love the use of modeling and level of enthusiasm with our classmates ๐ฅฐ @denise_kollhoff@301Lions
A colleague shared a video of a teacher putting stickers on her face every time a new student participated. I tried out the idea, and my classes were determined to get as many stickers on my face in an hour! Needless to say, I looked crazy by the end of it! ๐คช #whateverittakes

We went to a fall festival today! We worked hard on our multiplication digital escape room thanks to district 301โs amazing math coaches! We had some lucky winners of a virtual gold fish! โค๏ธ๐๐ #301 #mathchat#makemeaningofmultiplication#escaperoom
When we noticed a common error in student thinking @vtargett and I made a warm-up to get students talking, arguing, representing, and really understanding the math. We've got it now!
Can you find the imposter?
