Please check out and point patients/carers to this resource - https://t.co/Fwk11IsTMz. The fruit of a national collaboration between patients/carers and HCPs. A huge step forward in facilitating shared decision making in managing malignant pleural effusion.
📢Hot off the press! Our paper in @BMJOpen_Resp explores the psychosocial impact of Indwelling Pleural Catheters in patients with malignant pleural effusions.

@ERSpublications Alternate way to put it: IPC improves QoL as much as conventional chest drain/pleurodesis; as also shown in TIME-2 & AMPLE-1 with different instruments of assessment. Key message: choose IPC vs chest drain on other considerations eg procedure avoidance etc. @d33pan@Charlies_Resp
European Respiratory Journal: IPCs are not superior to chest drain and pleurodesis at improving quality of life in patients with malignant pleural effusion https://t.co/X1alYpU9PP
Thank you to all who joined today's TAPS: Excited by the overwhelming response! Next Seminar on March 6th @4pm AEST @6pm NZ by Dr Deepan Sivakumar on 'Indwelling #Pleural Catheter: Improving care' (+ OPTIMUM trial results). Mark it in diary! @PleuralPOCUS#MedEd#MedTwitter
@HMRIAustralia Asthma & Breathing Research Symposium 2023: #Pleural session featuring @d33pan showing highlights of OPTIMUM trial results (in press ERJ); @JohnHar67438702 on implementation hurdles of tPA/DNase; @vin_george2 on new studies to streamline pleural diagnosis/Rx. #PCCM
Fantastic to hear from @vin_george2 at today's @HMRIAustralia Asthma and Breathing meeting about the STREAMLINE study, aimed at improving the time to definitive diagnosis and treatment in those with suspected malignant pleural effusions
An incredibly inspiring lecture by Professor @YCGaryLee at the @HMRIAustralia Inaugural Asthma and Breathing programme meeting on why research is so important with insights on how to start. The smallest projects with minimal resources can have a huge impact on patient care!
This Fellowship suits those wishing to develop specialist skills to become a #pleural lead clinician. Full time looking after pleural patients in an intellectually stimulating environment. See https://t.co/7xossKAyd2 for list of past fellows. Pls RT to anyone else interested
@kevingblyth @EleanorKMishra Thank you both! Really enjoyed having a detailed conversation about this work and the future. None of this possible without the unwavering support of @lijuahmed
Lovely EMG data from @d33pan pre and post therapeutic pleural aspiration. Neural respiratory drive is high pre-drainage - higher than for many COPD patients. Mostly figures improves after fluid removal, but small numbers. Interesting work. #PRD2021@UKPleura
